Honours Projects

Fourth-year undergraduate students may conduct an Honours Project in a research laboratory at The Neuro. Interacting with scientists and lab personnel, the student conducts a research project and presents a final paper. Each ƽÌØÎå²»ÖÐ department can provide more information.

BSc Programs in Neuroscience

Work in Labs

Undergraduate students may work in research laboratories at The Neuro as volunteers or as paid employees to gain valuable knowledge and laboratory experience. To explore opportunities for lab work, students should contact faculty members at The Neuro whose research matches their interests. See .

Graduate students

About 200 students, residents and fellows work in The Neuro’s 50 research labs. Many pursue a Masters or PhD in ƽÌØÎå²»ÖÐ's Integrated Program in Neuroscience, one of the largest such programs in North America. In addition, graduate students at The Neuro can pursue their degrees through programs in Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroengineering and more.

Students learn techniques and develop research skills in brain imaging, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, cognitive psychology, electrophysiology, immunology, morphology, neuro-engineering, systems neuroscience and other specialties. Through our many seminar series and named lectures, students can hear the world's most prominent scientists present their latest work, as well as, enjoy many opportunities to participate in international meetings.

Post-doc

Post-doctoral fellows are critical to the progress of research at The Neuro. By joining a lab, post-doctoral fellows continue their training, work toward an independent career and help guide graduate students. Weekly seminar series, special lectures, international conferences and a collegial atmosphere enrich The Neuro’s superb training environment. Residents and Fellows

Medical residents and clinical fellows have trained at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital since its founding in 1934. More than 1,300 former fellows have established careers in prominent medical and academic centres around the world and many are leaders in their field. Clinical fellows develop specialized skills under the guidance of a faculty mentor and may explore this opportunity by contacting Neuro physicians with complementary interests.

The Neurology and Neurosurgery Residency Programs are coordinated by the Faculty of Medicine at ƽÌØÎå²»ÖÐ. Residents benefit from a vibrant clinical community and an expanded network as the Montreal Neurological Hospital is one of five teaching hospitals in the . Postdoctoral Fellowships

1. Applicant must hold an M.D and/or Ph.D. degree.
2. You must have received your M.D and/or Ph.D. by AprilÌý2019 or later in order to meet the eligibility requirements. Interruptions, delays or post-degree clinical training in your post-PhD cumulative experience may be taken into account in determining eligibility if detailed information on the interruption, including specific dates, is provided.
3. Prior to submitting an application, applicants must contact a faculty member at The Neuro and obtain their agreement to act as their primary postdoctoral supervisor. The faculty member must be identified on the application and will be required to provide a .
4. Applicant must identify two sponsors and have each of them complete and submit the .
5. Fellowships are awarded based on merit and on a competitive basis.

The Dr. Richard MurphyÌýTravel Award - up to $1500 for travel expenses of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows presenting research at national and international scientific meetings, including the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting.

The Don Baxter Collaborative Fund - up to $3000 for travel expenses of graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and clinical trainees, to visit labs in other locations to learn new techniques and forge collaborative links as well as to attend specialized courses directly related to their area of study/specialty offered nationally or internationally.

The Tom GevasÌýStudent Travel Award - up to $1500 for travel expenses of graduate students presenting research at national and international scientific meetings, including the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting.

The Hay Foundation External Training Travel Award - up to $5000 for travel expenses of graduate students to attend specialized courses directly related to their area of study/specialty offered nationally or internationally.

The McKerracher External Training Travel Award in Regenerative Medicine - up to $5000 for travel expenses to graduate students or post-doctoral fellows whose research involves brain development, neurodegenerative medicine as well as stem cells and pluripotent cells development.

The Lewis RefordÌýFellows Travel Award - up to $1500 for travel expenses of post-doctoral fellows presenting research at national and international scientific meetings, including the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting.
