New Multi-Centre Mechanism
The Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) announced significant changes to the MSSS Multi-Centre Research Ethics Review Mechanism (2014 Mechanism).
Under the 2014 Mechanism, as of February 1, 2015, a study to be conducted at two or more institutions within the Quebec public health and social services network will be subject to:
- One ethics review for all sites conducted by the REB of Record (or CER 茅valuateur)
- Site specific assessment (or examen de convenance) at each site
- Research authorization by the mandated person (personne mandat茅e) at each site
With these changes, the following review mechanisms will be replaced as of February 1, 2015:
- The 平特五不中 IRB review process;
- The 2008 Multi-Centre Study Mechanism.

How to submit and manage projects with Nagano platform
听
Nagano platform
The Neurosciences Panel of the MUHC REB is now using the Nagano platform for the management and review of research projects.
As of March 7, 2016, Neuro researchers must use the Nagano platform for all their ethics submissions (new and ongoing projects) made to the Neurosciences Panel of the MUHC REB. No paper copies or e-mail submissions will be accepted.

How does it work?
- If you are a principal investigator with ongoing protocols, you may access Nagano with your 鈥淍mcgill.ca鈥� or your 鈥淍mail.mcgill.ca鈥� email address and your 平特五不中 password.
- Otherwise, please send an email to info.nagano [at] muhc.mcgill.ca with your 平特五不中 short username, 鈥淍mcgill.ca鈥� or 鈥淍mail.mcgill.ca鈥� e-mail address and your full name. (Please consider that it may take up to 48 hours (2 working days) before your account is created.)

Q: Are there submission deadlines?
A: No, there are no submission deadlines, please submit your projects when they are ready.

Q: Is the connection to Nagano secured?
A: Yes the connection is secured.

Q: Once the submission is completed, what should I do if I want to make changes?
A: Contact the REB coordinator to ensure that your project is not already in treatment. They will give you the necessary information to make your changes.

Q: Is it possible for different people to insert documents simultaneously?
A: Yes. Everyone who has an access to a project can access the form to complete the different sections and add documents.

Q: When I log into Nagano, which projects will I access?
A: You will have access to all your active and shared projects.

Q: How can I give someone access to my project?
A: Only the principal Nagano user for a project can give someone access to this project. Only someone with an MUHC/Neuro Nagano account can be added/removed as a 芦听user听禄 on a project. Procedure (French only) click here.

Q: What is the recommended browser to use Nagano?
A: Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 8 or above) was tested and guarantees the compatibility of the basic functions of Nagano. Safari has been tested sporadically and is functional. However, Google Chrome is the browser of choice for using Nagano.

Q: Will I receive an email when I will need to fill a renewal form?
A: Yes, an email is sent to the email address linked to your Nagano account unless you have changed the default parameters in the 鈥淎ctivity Follow-up鈥� tab of your profile.
听
Q: Can I change the email address linked to my Nagano account?
A: Yes. By accessing your profile, you can add a second email address in the "preferred email" tab. This address will be used first.
听
Q: If I did not have time to complete the entire form, do I lose the filled out fields?
A: No. Each section of the form is saved individually. Just click the button "save and continue" after each question. You can fill out the same form over several days / times of the day.

Q: When creating a project, I can say that my project is a multicenter project only if 鈥�
A: My project involves two centers or more in Quebec, including my institution.
听
Q: Is the English version of Nagano available?
A: Nagano is currently being translated.听 Parts of Nagano are already translated but the platform is not currently functional in English. Please use the French version until further notice.
听
Q: I receive many e-mail notifications from Nagano.听 How can I select the type of notification I want to receive?
A: In your profile, click on the 鈥淎ctivity Follow-up鈥� tab and select the Nagano and e-mail notifications you wish to receive (French only)听Click here

Q: How can I verify the status of my project?
A: On your project page, click on the blue 鈥渟tatus鈥� button.

Q: What is the 鈥淢ise 脿 jour du projet鈥� form?
A: This form was created to populate the Nagano database with the information that we could not migrate from your project鈥檚 paper file.听 This form gets created automatically the 1st time you update a project that was migrated to Nagano.听 You will have the choice to upload the last approved version of your project鈥檚 documents with this form or at the time of your project鈥檚 1st Continuing Review in Nagano.

Q: Why must I upload the last approved version of all my project鈥檚 documents with the 鈥淢ise 脿 jour du projet鈥� form or at the time of it鈥檚 1st Continuing Review in Nagano?
A: We could not migrate the documents from your project鈥檚 paper file to the Nagano database. We therefore ask you to upload them in Nagano to ensure your Nagano project file is complete going forward.听 You will have the choice to upload the last approved version of your project鈥檚 documents with the 鈥淢ise 脿 jour du projet鈥� form or at the time of your project鈥檚 1st Continuing Review in Nagano.听 Please keep in mind that this step must be completed only once and is only applicable for projects that were migrated to Nagano.
