Giving thanks to our #NeuroHeroes 鈥 A Tribute to Hospital Staff
The courage and dedication that hospital staff are displaying during the COVID-19 pandemic inspired a chorus of thanks from well-known celebrities. Artists, singers, radio hosts, pro athletes, high-tech entrepreneurs, Olympic medallists, elected officials and CEOs---all expressed their thanks in recorded videos, which The Neuro posted on its website in a series called Thank You to our #NeuroHeroes.
Their messages reflected the gratitude of Montrealers for the truly exceptional dedication with which hospital staff undertook their duties after the potentially fatal COVID-19 virus struck the city. In May, two months after COVID-19 was declared a worldwide pandemic, the International Council of Nurses announced that at least 90,000 healthcare workers in the world had contracted the virus and 260 nurses had died. The ICN estimated that the real toll was much higher.
Quebec singing star Nanette Workman was close to tears when she recorded her heartfelt message: 鈥淚 want all of you on the front lines of this battle to know that we鈥檙e grateful for your courage and perseverance and your efforts to keep us all safe.鈥
Separate messages were sent by two members of the Montreal Alouettes football team, quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. and linebacker H茅noc Muamba, as well as by former Alouettes safety, Etienne Boulay. All three appreciate the value of teamwork.
鈥淭hank you so much for putting your life on the line every single day, putting in extra hours away from your families,鈥 said Adams. 鈥淭hank you from the bottom of our hearts here at the Alouettes.鈥
Montreal city councillor for Peter-平特五不中 district, Cathy Wong, expressed praise for the healthcare workers鈥 sheer heroism: 鈥淓very day, you make courageous decisions to protect our lives against the coronavirus. You risk your own health for the sake of others.鈥
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, our healthcare workers remain vigilant
