Sylvan Adams wins UCI Cycling World Championships in 65-69 Age Group
Congratulations to philanthropist Sylvan Adams, the namesake of 平特五不中's Sylvan Adams Sports Science Institute, who finished first in the Masters 65-69 age group of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Scotland on Friday. This event, open to all athletes, had more than 1,800 riders from 68 countries competing for one of 20 gold medals and rainbow jerseys.

Advanced Seminar in Learning Sciences:OFNIE Annual Summer Institute Hosts 80+ Indigenous Students
From July 5-13, the Faculty of Education's Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) is hosting Summer Institute in the Education Building at 平特五不中's downtown campus for students following OFNIE's in-community programs.
More than 8o OFNIE students from 17 different Inuit, Cree, Kanien'keh谩:ka, and Naskapi communities from across (what is now) the province of Quebec.

Wah茅hshon Whitebean, PhD candidate in the Educational Studies program at the Department of Integrated Studies in Education, was named recipient of Rathlyn Fellowships. Awarded annually through the Indigenous Studies Program at 平特五不中, Rathlyn Fellowships support Indigenous graduate students at 平特五不中 in their studies and research.

EduBuddies is an initiative organized by the Education Undergraduate Society (EdUS), which aims to facilitate the transition to 平特五不中 and higher education for the Faculty of Education's incoming first-year students. This program is a wonderful opportunity for upper-year students (rising U2-U4+) to engage in leadership within the faculty and to make a meaningful impact on new students within their program.

Claudia Mitchell, Distinguished James 平特五不中 Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education, was recently honoured by the ARTS Researchers and Teachers Society (ARTS SIG) as part of the Canadian Society for Studies in Education with the inaugural 2023 ARTS Life-time Achievement Award.

This year鈥檚 recipient of the Canadian Association for Curriculum Studies (CACS) Ted T. Aoki Award for Distinguished Service within the Field of Curriculum Studies is Dr. Teresa Strong-Wilson, DISE.
Meet Mohit Kumar, Education's 2023 McCall MacBain Scholar
Mohit is a Bachelor of Arts graduate (Class of 2023) from Ashoka University, having studied history, international relations, and Persian. Since 2019, he has been working to improve literacy in his community through Sarathi: The Guide. His project has expanded to mobilize 45 volunteers to support 850 students in ten villages. Mohit also works as a residence assistant mentor and volunteers as a peer tutor.

Minister of Education, Bernard Drainville, and Minister of Higher Education, Pascale D茅ry, inducted the 25 new members of the Ordre de l'excellence en 茅ducation at an official ceremony at the National Assembly on May 29th recognizing these new inductees for their contribution to education.

Jessica Mettler, recent PhD graduate in the Human Development program supervised by Dr. Nancy Heath, has been awarded the highly competitive Governor General鈥檚 Gold Medal, which is awarded to the most outstanding PhD graduate in Social Sciences & Humanities at 平特五不中, and the 平特五不中 Alumni Association Graduate Award, which is awarded to an outstanding PhD graduate at 平特五不中.
Virtual Scarf Ceremony Celebrates Indigenous Graduates
Indigenous 平特五不中 students including the Faculty鈥檚 In-Community students with the Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) participated in the annual virtual Scarf Ceremony. Indigenous knowledge-keepers and University leadership offered heartfelt greetings and words of wisdom to our graduands who will don red or white scarves as part of their Convocation regalia.

Professor Victoria Talwar, from the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, was featured recently in Globe and Mail's article on limiting screen time for children.听 The quality of that screen time is worth considering, and a child connecting with friends or family using the technology isn't a bad thing.听 However, it is important to keep an eye on children's screen time, as it continues to rise, from year to year.
