Undergraduate Society

Although the time available for extra-curricular activities was limited during the past year, the Commerce Undergraduate body participated strenuously in its programme.

As in the past, the Society tried to maintain and improve the standard of activities and also to insert such new ones as were required.

Luncheons were held during the year; one was followed by a visit to an advertising concern and another by a visit to a brewery.

The Commerce Debating Society enjoyed a successful year, the highlight being a Mock Parliament, the debate being between day students and the evening classes for Advanced Cost and Industrial Organization.

The Commerce men took over the publication of the 鈥淒aily鈥 for one edition and presented their views of the news.

It is noteworthy to see that of 55 students who first comprised this year鈥檚 graduating class, 23 are on active service while 3 have made the supreme sacrifice.

Another important work carried out this year was the revision of the constitution.

During the year President Richard Stevenson retired to go on active service with the Navy and at an open election Joe Kenna was elected as the new President.

Message to Commerce Graduates

As you leave the University to make your own way, you are meeting a troubled world. Some of you have already entered the country鈥檚 service.

Wherever you are and whatever you are doing you will find that your full resources will be needed. We hope that the University has helped to make these resources available.

We hope also that when these troubles are settled and you are back at the work you originally planned, you will not forget the lessons which are now being taught by this war. No county can live in isolation.

Very sincerely,

E. F. Beach

Director of the School of Commerce
