For instructors and course designers, the optimal way to structure a course is a critical question. With many pedagogical perspectives and a diverse array of student needs, it is challenging to find instructional methods that work for everyone. A framework that seeks to remediate some current challenges in teaching and learning is known as the , an approach to education that emphasizes inclusivity and accessibility.
Office of Science Education Student Engagement Administrator Ezelbahar Metin and Communications Assistant Bhavya Bhushan sat down with presenters to discuss the upcoming Undergraduate Poster Showcase. Two-stage exams are a form of assessment that bring student collaborative learning into the testing process. While a typical two-stage exam gathers students to re-do the exam as a group after completing it individually, this project investigates the use of 鈥済roup first鈥 two-stage exams. In this format, piloted in Organic Chemistry I midterm exams, students complete the group component before the individual component, and each part has related, but discrete questions.
In our fast-paced world, where information is propagated at high speeds from one end of the globe to the other, it is undeniable that rapid communication has rendered information highly diffusible. A problem arises, however, when false or inaccurate information regarding scientific theories and research spreads. For this reason, it is essential to find new and innovative ways to effectively transmit information that is comprehensible to the general public.

Data and collaboration are key in science 鈥 so why not use both to drive change in teaching and learning at the Faculty of Science at 平特五不中? FSCI 396 鈥 Research Project in Science Teaching and Learning is a course that partners undergraduate students and instructors to design and assess learning opportunities, resulting in improvements for everyone.
Creating a Brighter Future: Sustainability at 平特五不中 was designed to help students engage with the topic regardless of their field of study.
Each year, around 1,000 new students begin an undergraduate science degree at 平特五不中. For many of them, their first year at university represents a dramatic change from the world of high school or CEGEP.
鈥淭he workload, the amount of new content you get, and a different style of testing鈥 are three of the challenges Marie Walker recalls from her first semester as a science undergrad.
