颁濒补谤颈苍别迟迟颈蝉迟听David Dias da Silva聽(ArtDip'16) has won the聽2016 Prix d'Europe. 聽Third prize, the聽Le Prix聽Qu茅becor聽聽and the聽Prix聽Guy Soucie 聽were awarded to violinist and聽DMus candidate聽Elizabeth Skinner聽(MMus'15). 聽Soprano聽Erin Berger聽(BMus'11, MMus'13) received the聽Prix du Lied et de la m茅lodie, and flutist聽Lara Deutsch聽(BMus'12, MMus'14) was awarded the聽Prix du Centre de musique canadienne au Qu茅bec.
Susan McClary,聽B.Mus. (Southern Illinois University), M.A., Ph.D. (Harvard University) was 聽named聽Doctor of Music聽honoris causa聽at 聽this year's spring convocation, which took place on May 31st.
Professor Ichiro Fujinaga has been appointed Associate Dean for Research and Administration for 2016-17. 聽Professor Fujinaga is one of the leading figures worldwide in the fields of Music Information Retrieval and Digital Humanities in Music.聽 He is also a successful and productive researcher, who has received major grants from many sources, including the US National Endowment for the Humanities and the Mellon Foundation, and Canadian SSHRC, CFI, and FRQSC.
The 平特五不中 Trumpet Ensemble and professor Richard Stoelzel, Brass Area Chair,聽recently participated in聽the in Anaheim, California. 聽Their prelude concert collegiate聽performance received astanding ovation. "In my over 20 years going to these conferences, I have never witnessed a prelude concert collegiate trumpet ensemble receive a standing ovation," said Prof. Stoelzel.

Violist Marina Thibault, MMus'15, has been named a R茅v茅lation musicale 2016-2017 by Radio-Canada. 聽 While a student at the Schulich School of Music she was in the class of Prof. Andr茅 Roy, and was a winner of the 平特五不中 Concerto Competition. 聽The聽R茅v茅lations musicales program provides both artistic support and a performance platform for talented young artists. 聽
Artist Diploma聽piano student聽Karl Hirzer, MMus 2015, has been named resident conductor with Calgary Philharmonic and also assistant conductor to Boris Brott at the National Academy Orchestra for the summer of 2016. Karl Hirzer is a Canadian pianist and conductor from Vancouver, BC. In May of 2015, he completed his Master鈥檚 degree in piano performance 聽studying with聽Ilya Poletaev at the Schulich School of Music, where he also studied orchestral conducting with Alexis Hauser.
The Schulich School of Music is conducting an internal competition to select its candidate for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship competition.

Professor聽Stephen McAdams,聽Canada Research Chair in Music Perception and Cognition, is one of six outstanding Canadian researchers to be awarded a Canada Council for the Arts Killam Research Fellowship.聽He is the second Killam Research Fellowship recipient from the Schulich School of Music.
The Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada (SWAAC) have named graduate musicology student聽Laura Risk聽a recipient of聽a聽2016聽SWAAC Graduate Student Award of Merit.聽 This聽award was established to recognize women who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their university and in the community while maintaining an exemplary academic record.聽 The award, which consists of $3000 and a plaque, will be presented on Friday, April 29th at the SWAAC annual conference.
When he retired in 2010, Lawrence Mysak, Professor Emeritus in 平特五不中鈥檚 Department of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, capped an illustrious and award-winning career in science and mathematics. But his research and teaching career ran parallel to another passion. Mysak is also an active musician, and has played the flute for over two decades as a member of the I Medici di 平特五不中 Orchestra. Recently he established the Lawrence A. Mysak Prize for Woodwinds at the Schulich School of Music, an annual undergraduate award whose first recipient will be announced in 2016.
Rihab Chaieb has been awarded a First Prize at the 2016 Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition in New York. 聽聽She聽graduated with聽BMus in Voice from the 聽Schulich School of Music before becoming a member of the Canadian Opera Company's聽聽Ensemble program. Currently finishing her first year at the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann program, Chaieb聽studied voice at Schulich with Professors Winston Purdy and Sanford Sylvan.
