Violinist Yolanda Bruno, BMus'11,听was awarded the First Prize and the Audience Choice Prize at the inaugural Isabel Overton Bader Canadian Violin Competition, organized by the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts at Queen鈥檚 University. This national competition was open to Canadian violinists from the age of 18 to 29. While studying at the Schulich School of Music, she was a violin student of Jonathan Crow.

After playing 350 concerts, recording two albums, and appearing at more than ten international music festivals, contemporary percussion ensemble broke new ground by paying homage to composer (and Director of the Schulich School of Music's听Digital Composition Studios) composer听Philippe Leroux in their newest release, De la percussion听().听

平特五不中 will present Montreal-born conductor Yannick N茅zet-S茅guin with an honorary degree. The University鈥檚 highest honour will be presented to Maestro N茅zet-S茅guin on May 14, at 3 p.m., at the Maison symphonique de Montr茅al, 1600 rue Saint-Urbain.

Despite being the most-performed operatic composer in the world, there鈥檚 a surprising lack of studies written on the style of Giuseppe Verdi鈥檚 works 鈥 a problem that Prof. Steven Huebner is addressing head-on. Recently, Huebner put out the first book in any language that offers an in-depth analysis of the composer鈥檚 musical style in the context of his 23 Italian operas, from Aida to Ernani.

Professor Julie Cumming,听Associate Professor of听Music History and听Musicology, Interim Dean of the Schulich School of Music, has received the听Graduate Faculty Teaching Award (Doctoral-level) 2016-2017 听from the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools (NAGS). The association is comprised听of Deans and Associate Deans of graduate studies from听universities on the east coast of the US north of Washington DC, within听Canada, from 听universities in听Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes.

Two Schulich School of Music voice students were winners at the听Concours de Musique du Choeur de la Montagne,听which took place on April 8, 2017. 听Baritone William Reed Copeland, BMus'17/MMus'19 received first prize, and 听soprano听Elizabeth Mary Jane Egan BMus'18 received second prize. 听Both were accompanied by Schulich School of Music Rehearsal coach, pianist听听Louise Pelletier. 听

Trompettiste, compositeur, arrangeur et professeur 脿 平特五不中, il tient 脿 bout de bras comme de pieds 鈥 faut bien battre la mesure听! 鈥 un grand orchestre, alias听big band听depuis plus ou moins 20 ans. Professor Dominique Labelle was honoured at the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra 听(PBO)听and Chorale's annual Winter Gala, held on March 10, 2017. 听At the Gala, Labelle premiered a newly commissioned piece which was written for her听by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Caroline听Shaw.

While ensembles at Schulich frequently put on class concerts throughout the school year, it鈥檚 much less common for them to collaborate with another of the school鈥檚 groups 鈥 let alone two. On Thursday, April 6, the 平特五不中 Baroque Orchestra, Cappella Antica and the Schulich Singers will come together to perform Handel鈥檚 legendary oratorio Israel in Egypt under the joint leadership of directors Valerie Kinslow, Jean-S茅bastien Vall茅e and Hank Knox.
