CHU Sainte-Justine

The CHU Sainte-Justine was founded聽in a small house on rue Saint-Denis in 1907 by Dr. Irma Levasseur (the first licensed female French-Canadian physician) and Justine Lacoste-Beaubien. The聽Filles de la Sagesse congregation managed its operations and administered its聽school dedicated to pediatric nursing. In 1928, a Department of Obstetrics was officially created. In 1957, the Hospital moved to its current site on the northern slope of Mount Royal on Chemin de la C么te-Sainte-Catherine. In 1974, it merged with the obstetrics department of l'H么pital de la Mis茅ricorde. A significant expansion occurred in 2018-19 with the addition of a seven-story wing housing wards for patients with high-risk pregnancy, trauma, and neonatal disease. The hospital is the largest center dedicated to the care of both mother and child in Canada.
