Russell Copeman

Russell Copeman was the Director of the 2018 Bishop鈥檚 Forum: A Civic Leadership Institute for English-speaking Youth. The Director is responsible for the overall organization of a five day civic engagement forum in August for English-speaking youth from across Qu茅bec.

Mr. Copeman was the Mayor of the Borough of C么te-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Gr芒ce, the City of Montreal鈥檚 most populous borough, and a Montreal City Councillor from November 2013 until November 2017. Upon his election he was invited to join Mayor Denis Coderre鈥檚 Executive Committee and was responsible for Housing, Urban Planning, Real Estate Management and Planning and the Office de consultation publique de Montr茅al.

From 2008 until 2013 Mr. Copeman was a senior administrator at Concordia University, serving as Associate Vice-President, External Relations. He was also an Adjunct Professor in Concordia鈥檚 Department of Political Science where he taught Quebec Public Administration.

He was a member of Premier Robert Bourassa鈥檚 staff until his election to the National Assembly of Qu茅bec in 1994 as the Member for Notre-Dame-de-Gr芒ce where he served until his resignation in October 2008.

During his fourteen year tenure in the National Assembly Mr. Copeman served in various capacities including Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health and Social Services, Mr. Philippe Couillard. From 2003 until 2007 he chaired the Standing Committee on Social Affairs. In 2008 he co-Chaired the first pan-Canadian Summit on Inuit Health, held in Kuujjuaq.

Familiar with the media, Mr. Copeman made regular appearances as a political analyst with Jean Lapierre on CTV Montreal鈥檚 鈥淭his Week in Politics鈥 segment from 2008 until 2010 and is an occasional political commentator in the media.
