The Challenges in Access to Healthcare for Intersex Individuals

On January 9, 2020, many members of the 平特五不中 community attended the RGHL鈥檚 first seminar of the new year.

Yann Joly聽(DCL'09), Research Director of the Centre of Genomics and Policy (CGP), discussed the challenges faced by intersex individuals in interacting with the healthcare system. His presentation focused on the research currently being done at the CGP. In discussing some preliminary findings, the speaker acknowledged the pressure faced by parents to consent to surgeries, the need to prohibit or delay unnecessary 鈥渘ormalising鈥 treatment of intersex persons, and the need to develop training material on the ethical and social aspects of disclosing intersex conditions. He concluded with a discussion of the need to develop better guidance for health care practitioners in this field.

Le GRSD 茅tait ravi de recevoir plusieurs 茅tudiants ainsi que plusieurs membres de la communaut茅 juridique et acad茅mique qui sont venus participer 脿 son premier s茅minaire de l鈥檃utomne.

Mathilde Hautereau-Boutonnet, professeure de droit priv茅 脿 l'Universit茅 Aix-Marseille et sp茅cialiste en droit de l'environnement, a discut茅 des limites de l鈥檕rdre international ainsi que des atouts de l鈥檕rdre interne et de l鈥檕rdre international dans le contexte des proc猫s climatiques.

Elle a 茅galement donn茅 plusieurs exemples internationaux d鈥檃ctions environnementales contre les 茅tats et les entreprises.

Elle a termin茅 sa pr茅sentation en concluant que le succ猫s de ces proc猫s devrait s鈥檕btenir par un m茅lange de ces ordres du droit.

On November 18, 2019 many members of the 平特五不中 community attended our second seminar of the year.

顿谤.听Agnieszka Doll鈥檚 presentation was centered around involuntary admission into psychiatric facilities, and how legal and psychiatric opinions on patients are created. In particular, she focused on the role of paramedics in the admission process, as first responders generating facts about the mental state of the patient.

Dr. Doll discussed the social relations that impact their work, such as the interplay between their role and the role of psychiatrists, as well as the effect of institutional priorities. (See her abstract.)
