The current events of these past weeks have shone a light on the racial injustice that sadly exists in today鈥檚 world. The tragedy of George Floyd鈥檚 death, while having taken place in the United States, has provoked us to think about direct and indirect prejudices that perpetuate in our own communities.

The Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education聽would like to congratulate聽Kaila Bonnell for receiving the Chantal Malard Memorial Prize (Graduation Award).

Established聽in 1997 by the Education Undergraduate Society in memory of Chantal Malard, a former Education student. Awarded to a student who has demonstrated聽artistic ability,聽leadership qualities,聽and involvement in聽volunteer activities聽while maintaining a聽high academic standing聽(e.g. at least 3.50 CGPA).

Congratulations to Yasmine Coovadia, who completed her Master鈥檚 of Science degree in Exercise Physiology based on her work in the Cardiovascular Health and Autonomic Regulation Laboratory (CHARLab) under the supervision of Dr. Charlotte Usselman.

Yasmine鈥檚 thesis was entitled, Beat by beat fluctuations in blood pressure during acute sympatho-inhibition: The effect of sex.

Congrats to TIE lab student Zhiyang (George) Shi聽on publishing his聽Master's thesis "Exploring how Chinese adults living with spinal cord injury viewed the prospect of inpatient peer support programs within a hospital-based rehabilitation setting" on聽Spinal Cord.

Spinal Cord聽is the official journal of the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS), publishing research on spinal cord anatomy, physiology and management of injury and disease for over聽50 years.
