Kascie Shewan

Kascindra (Kascie) Shewan Kascindra (Kascie) Shewan is a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow (2021-2023) in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at 平特五不中. Her research considers how approaches to sexualized violence prevention (i.e. consent discourse, bystanderism, self-defence) impact and are impacted by neoliberal discourses of citizenship. Currently, under the supervision of Dr. Carrie Rentschler, she is investigating how popular media (i.e. television, film, social media content) is being used within community-oriented, postsecondary, youth-activist sexualized violence prevention work. She is also interested in how intersectional feminist theories and praxis are employed within Canadian anti-sexualized violence activism and pedagogy. Kascie has designed and delivered several undergraduate courses based on her research including, 鈥淚nterventions in Rape Culture(s),鈥 and 鈥淰iolence at the Intersection of Gender, Sexuality, and Settler Colonialism.鈥 She holds a PhD in English and Cultural Studies from McMaster University and a MA in Women鈥檚 Studies and Feminist Research from Western University. Her work has been published in Atlantis: Critical Studies in Gender, Culture & Social Justice, and Canadian Journal of Film Studies.
