Dr. Shane Sweet Is One of 平特五不中's 10 Renewed Canada Research Chairs (2023)

Dr. Shane Sweet, Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education was just renewed as a听Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Participation, Well-Being, and Physical Disability. Shane's research听involves studying well-being and participation in daily and social activities among people living with physical disabilities. This kind of practical application research will impact society in terms of optimizing interventions and programs aimed at enhancing the lives of people living with physical disabilities.

Canada Research Chair (CRC) Research Summary:

More than 2.6 million Canadians are living with physical disabilities. Their rates of physical activity are lower than those for people without disabilities, which affects their well-being in a variety of ways. As Canada Research Chair in Participation, Well-Being, and Physical Disability, Dr.听Shane Sweet aims to improve the lives of adults with physical disabilities by offering physical activity adaptations and peer support.

He and his research team are developing and testing theory-based physical activity interventions and programs for these adults. They are also testing resources to optimize spinal cord injury (SCI) peer support programs and creating and validating a framework for SCI peer support programming. Ultimately, Sweet鈥檚 research has the potential to transform the lives of adults who live with physical disabilities by improving their well-being.

Seventeen 平特五不中 researchers honoured with prestigious Canada Research Chairs for 2023.听Seven new and 10 renewed Canada Research Chairs were announced for 平特五不中, representing a total research investment of $10.9 million.
