Welcome to the Department of Sociology! Our department is one of the top sociology departments in North America and is ranked among the top-50 in the world by multiple global university ranking publications. We enjoy an international reputation for excellence in research, teaching, and student training.
Our programs enable students to develop an excellent range of research skills and knowledge – valuable for those intending to eventually pursue jobs in a vast array of fields, including academia, business, government, the health sector, and the NGO sector.
The Department of Sociology includes 20+ full-time faculty members with particular strengths in Social Demography, Gender/Sexuality, Race/Ethnicity, Political Sociology, Labour, Immigration, Development, Family, Social Inequalities, the Sociology of Health, Criminology, and more.
