Canada Award

平特五不中 is offering the Canada Award to new Canadian non-resident of Quebec (CNRQ) students beginning full-time undergraduate studies in most disciplines in the Fall 2024 or Winter 2025 terms.听The Canada Award is renewable for up to four years (8 terms) of study and is applied automatically. Valued at $3,000 annually ($1,500 in each Fall and Winter term), the Canada Award offers up to $12,000 over 8 terms of study.

The Canada Award is additionally offered to continuing 平特五不中 students with CNRQ fee residency who have an interfaculty transfer in Fall 2024 or later.

The Canada Award will be automatically granted to eligible Canadian students assessed at the Canadian, non-Quebec tuition rate.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligible for the Canada Award:

  • Undergraduate degree-seeking students in full-time studies who are admitted and enrolled as of Fall 2024 or Winter 2025, registered in eligible Faculties or Schools. These include:听Agriculture & Environmental Science, Architecture, Arts, Arts & Science, Education, Music, Nursing, and Science.
  • Undergraduate degree-seeking students in full-time studies who are admitted and enrolled as of Fall 2024 or Winter 2025, originally enrolled in an ineligible program who subsequently transfer into an eligible program.
  • Undergraduate degree-seeking students in full-time studies admitted and enrolled prior to Fall 2024, with no break in enrolment, and have an interfaculty transfer, are eligible for the Canada Award for up to a maximum of 8 attempted terms of study, minus the terms completed prior to the interfaculty transfer. All undergraduate degrees are eligible.
  • Undergraduate degree-seeking students in part-time studies who are admitted and enrolled as of Fall 2024 or Winter 2025, registered in eligible program, with a recognition from Student Achievement and Accessibility to be deemed full-time status while enrolled part-time due to disability accommodation.
  • Notes on eligibility:
    • Students are eligible as of the term in which they prove Canadian legal status. (example: Students who are international in the Fall 2024 term, who prove Canadian status in Winter 2025 would only be eligible for the Canada Award as of Winter 2025). Refer to the Legal Documents website.
    • Full-time status is defined as being registered and billed for 12 credits or more. Students who drop to under 12 credits due to a withdrawal with refund are considered part-time.

Not eligible for the Canada Award:

  • Certificate and Diploma seeking students; Graduate听non-thesis program students; Visiting and Special students; students in a qualifying year; students studying part-time.
  • Undergraduate degree-seeking students in full-time studies who are admitted and enrolled as of Fall 2024 or Winter 2025, originally enrolled in an eligible program who subsequently transfer into an ineligible program. Students are no longer eligible as of the transfer term.
  • Part-time students

DISBURSEMENT

Students will receive a maximum of $12,000, or $1500 per full-time (12 or more credits) term of registration up to a maximum of 8 terms (excluding summer), within a 5 year time period. This includes incoming transfer students provided other eligibility criteria are met. The award will be automatically disbursed by the Student Accounts Office to all eligible students, there is no form or application to complete. The final disbursement terms for the Canada Award are the Fall 2028/Winter 2029 academic year.

The Canada Award听is automatically applied to the fee account in Minerva for students registered in 12 or more credits in an eligible program at the beginning of each applicable semester.听The moment an eligible student is registered in 12 or more credits the Award will appear on the Account Summary by Term and e-bill as a negative charge, reducing the balance owing. During the registration period, students who add/drop courses and fluctuate between full-time and part-time status will see the award simultaneously added/dropped from their student fee account. Students will receive the award as long as they are registered as full-time (12 or more credits) by the end of the withdrawal with refund period. Students who withdraw during the withdrawal with refund period to less than 12 billed credits, will not receive the Canada Award, despite their transcript stating full-time status.

FAQs

Q; What happens to the Canada award if I drop to part-time status?

A: Students听who reduce their course load from 12 or more credits to less than 12 credits BEFORE the withdrawal with refund deadline will have their Canada Award REVOKED.

Students who reduce their course load from 12 or more credits to less than 12 credits AFTER the withdrawal with refund deadline will KEEP their Canada Award, as they are still being assessed for 12 credits or more.

Q: Is听the Canada Award considered taxable income? Will I receive a tax receipt for this?

A;听The Canada Award is classified as taxable income.听Students will be issued a T4A (RL1) each February for the Award issued in a prior year term.

Q: If I receive the Canada Award, will this impact my consideration for other types of scholarships and bursaries?

A: No. Newly admitted students will be considered for Entrance Scholarships and Entrance Bursaries independently of the Canada Award, and based on the normal processes and deadlines pertaining to each. Similarly, receipt of the Canada Award will not impact consideration of faculty-based scholarships and awards in subsequent years of study.
