AIM OF PROGRAM

This program offers a music degree where interests in music go beyond, or in alternative directions, from music performance.

Multiple pathways to careers in music (apart from conservatory training).

Some examples include music therapy, performance science, music journalism, music administration, music librarianship, music technology and multiple areas of music.

THIS PROGRAM

YOU WILL:

  • Develop specialized knowledge in a personally curated program of study.
  • Choose your music specializations, from an exciting range of options that include music entrepreneurship, music technology, music education, music history, music theory, composition, applied performance science.
  • Be prepared for interdisciplinary and creative careers in music. for example, music therapy, music journalism, music technology, performance science, music administration, or continue studies in graduate school and more).

Description

Music Studies requires 123 credits and focuses on interdisciplinary aspects of music. The program offers two streams*, Classical and Jazz, each combining core music courses in music theory, music history, musicianship, and professional development with a choice of music specializations in practical studies, music entrepreneurship, music education, music technology, applied performance sciences, composition, music theory, and music history. The program also offers the possibility to add courses from other disciplines or faculties.

*NOTE: Applicants will not apply to the two streams but are expected to choose the stream during registration

Program Requirements

Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.); Major Music Studies (123 credits)
Prerequisite Courses (21 credits)

Note: Students who can demonstrate through placement tests or equivalencies that they have mastered the material in any of the courses below will be exempt from them and may proceed to more advanced courses.
