Dr. Mark Ware

Dr. Ware is a family physician and currently serves as the Director of the interdisciplinary Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit, based at the Montreal General Hospital of the 平特五不中 Health Centre (MUHC). He is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at 平特五不中 and holds the endowed Alan Edwards Chair in Clinical Pain.听

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review the impact of Cannabis Act (2018) on medical cannabis access and authorization
  2. Summarize recent data on cannabis use in chronic pain management
  3. Reflect on attitudes towards use of cannabis for pain (including barriers and facilitators)

Dr. Jordi Perez

Dr. Perez is an听Associate professor of Anesthesiology. Associate director Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit. Full time pain clinician with interest in cancer and neuropathic pain and in treatment with interventional options and cannabinoid medicine.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand why opioids are poorly accepted as long-term therapy for chronic pain management
  2. Apply the 2017 Canadian Opioid Guidelines
  3. Learn analgesic strategies to follow the guideline

    Pain Throughout the Ages: Geriatric Pain

Dr. Mark Ware

  1. Describe the prevalence and patterns of pain in the elderly
  2. Develop a biopsychosocial approach to reduce pain and increase function
  3. Prescribe appropriate pharmacological agents as part of comprehensive pain management strategy

    Pain Throughout the Ages: Adult Pain

Dr. Yoram Shir

Dr. Shir is a Professor of Anesthesia at the 平特五不中 Health Centre and the former Director of the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit. Beyond his clinical duties, Dr. Shir dedicates his time to promoting pain education and disseminating pain medicine at the primary care level. His current research interests pertain to the analgesic role of diet and the gut microbiome in chronic pain conditions.

  1. Discuss general approach to adult pain therapy
  2. Discuss what 'adult' means
  3. Discuss the prevalence and burden of chronic adult pain
  4. Review disparities in chronic pain management

    Pain Throughout the Ages: Pediatric/Adolescent pain

Dr. Jonathan Hudon

Dr. Hudon is a family doctor with extra training in complex pain management and with a particular interest in headaches, migraines and facial pain. He is the co-director of the Edwards Family Interdisciplinary Center for Complex Pain and works at both pediatric and adult complex pain centres of the MUHC, as well as a general practitioner in Vaudreuil-Dorion and palliative care doctor at the Jewish General Hospital.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss basic pediatric acute pain assessment tools and analgesic modalities
  2. Highlight the contributions of parental anxiety and catastrophization on children's pain experiences
  3. Discuss the multimodal / interdisciplinary approach to pediatric complex pain, and its primary goal to increase the child鈥檚 function
