Dr. Christopher Mares

Dr Mares is a physiatrist who completed his residency at the University of Montreal. He then completed a chronic pain fellowship at 平特五不中. He is currently involved in 2 randomised controlled trials and has research interests in chronic pain and new technologies for chronic pain management. He is specialized in fluoroscopy and ultrasound guided procedures for pain management.

  1. Understand the basic anatomical approach to pain relieving blocks in chronic pain
  2. Select populations in their practice that might benefit from pain interventions
  3. Recognize procedures beyond "the classic injections" that are possible in chronic pain

Dr. Jordi Perez

Associate professor of Anesthesiology. Associate director Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit. Full time pain clinician with interest in cancer and neuropathic pain and in treatment with interventional options and cannabinoid medicine.

  1. Identify the right candidate to initiate medical cannabis for pain
  2. Understand the differences between the common forms of administration
  3. Learn the differences between THC and CBD
  4. Flag cases where medical cannabis might be a problem
  5. Monitor safely the use of medical cannabis for a chronic pain patient

Approach to Chronic Neuropathic Pain

Dr. Yoram Shir

Following training in anesthesiology and pain medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Shir served as Director of the Pain Relief Unit at Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem prior to assuming his Chair at 平特五不中. In addition to research, his clinical responsibilities include serving as Director of the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit, 平特五不中 Health Centre, in Montreal.

  1. Recognize practice limitations in treating neuropathic pain
  2. Be familiar with basic therapeutic guidelines
  3. Be aware of other, non-pharmacological therapeutic measures

Dr. Yaroslava Chtompel

Dr. Chtompel completed her anesthesiology training at 平特五不中 university. She went on to pursue a fellowship in chronic pain medicine at the University of Montreal. In 2017, she joined the department of anesthesiology at the Royal Victoria and the team at the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit.

  1. Recognise the role of opioids in CNCP and their limitations
  2. Identify patients who could benefit from opioid weaning
  3. List methods used in decreasing opioid doses
  4. Apply strategies to minimize withdrawal effects of opioid cessation
  5. Identify non-opioid options to manage chronic pain
