Hamnah

Class of 2025

Languages: English, French, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic (novice)
Education: B.Sc. (Honours) (University of Toronto 2019), MSc - Chemistry (University of Toronto 2020), MA - Sociology (University of Toronto, 2021)

My name is Hamnah Majeed and I grew up in Mississauga, Ontario. I have a multidisciplinary academic background in both natural sciences and social sciences. I am also passionate about research, and I have published in The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet Planetary Health, The Lancet Global Health, Palgrave Communications (Nature), ACS Earth and Space Chemistry, and Government Ministry Report. My interest in medicine dates to my childhood days where I was fascinated by the complexities of the human body. This interest solidified when my parents developed chronic conditions, and I became involved in their care. I not only learned how a multitude of factors can impact health (e.g., economic, social), but also the importance of physician-patient interactions and evidence-based care. When I am not studying or volunteering, you can find me playing basketball, traveling, reading, writing, and trying different desserts at cafes! Despite the other choices I had, coming to 平特五不中 to study medicine was a no-brainer; not only is 平特五不中 a top medical school, but it is also home to a diverse community of intellects and strives to help students become the very best physician possible. I am passionate about improving the health of Canadians, and I hope to inspire and be part of the next generation of extraordinary physicians.

Sid

Class of 2025

Languages: English, French, Bengali, Urdu, Hindi (casual)
Education: DEC Health Sciences (Dawson 2014), B.Sc Microbiology & Immunology (平特五不中 2018)

My name is Sid, and it is an honour to serve as an ambassador for the class of 2025. My favourite pass time is playing basketball. I also really enjoy cooking in my spare time. My favourite dish to make is (spicy) Lasagna. My journey to 平特五不中 medicine has been quite untraditional. I was born in Bangladesh but spent the majority of my childhood in Detroit and N.Y.C. I then moved to Montreal and started Adult Ed, as I have never attended a traditional high school.

Prior to being admitted, I worked as an administrative coordinator at the MGH ER and the GLEN site (since its opening in 2015). While working at the MUHC hospitals, I quickly realized that many of the world-class physicians and surgeons are here. I was extremely fortunate to witness them save lives and provide the 鈥渂est care for life鈥 everyday. This is one of the many reasons why I wanted to pursue my medical education here at 平特五不中. Additionally, the Faulty of Medicine鈥檚 emphasis on equity, diversity, and outreach, has made it my dream to be here. 平特五不中 is a world-renowned university, and meeting some of the most accomplished and diverse students here made me realize how privileged I am for pursuing my medical education alongside these remarkable colleagues and friends. Finally, the tremendous amount of support, guidance, and collegiality from my peers, senior students, and the faculty confirms that I have made the right choice. Therefore, it is encouraging to know that I will be supported all along this challenging yet exciting journey to be the person that I have always dreamt to be.

Being at 平特五不中 is like being at home for me. As a student ambassador, I look forward to helping you call 平特五不中 home. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me so that I can share some of these amazing experiences and my journey to 平特五不中 Medicine with you!

Sarah

Class of 2025

Languages: French, English, Arabic
Education: DEC Sciences de la Nature (C茅gep de l'Outaouais, 2016), BSc Honours in Nursing (University of Ottawa, 2021), Registered Nurse (RN)

Hello and welcome! Thank you for browsing around and exploring the many faces of 平特五不中 Medicine!

My name is Sarah, and I am a second-year medical student here at 平特五不中. I am honored to be a student ambassador! A little about me - in my free time when I鈥檓 not with friends or family or trying new recipes, I love to sing! In undergrad, I ran original musicals every year with a philanthropic student-run club. During that time, I also developed a passion for education from being an academic mentor with the faculty of health sciences and keeping busy as the VP academics of the nursing student association. I continue this trend today by being the VP of Medical Education of the Medical Student Society (MSS) and by holding various exciting positions in student-run initiatives and medical education research!

Growing up, I never really entertained the idea of medical school until much later in my schooling as I always thought it was out of reach. My trajectory is slightly unconventional, but I wouldn鈥檛 change a thing. My passion for the medical field was sparked as a nursing student. It grew stronger and unshakeable year to year as I got more exposure to the health care field. Being on the front line during the pandemic as part of the nursing team was what solidified my decision to fully delve into medicine. If you are reading this, you are probably entertaining the idea of applying to medicine here at 平特五不中. I can鈥檛 recommend it enough! 平特五不中 medicine is the epitome of excellence. From its rich history to its curriculum, to its staff, to its students, its facilities, its research, and to its impact on the world, the MDCM program is unbeatable. Student life is rich and rewarding like none other. Being a part of such a supportive and diverse community is a true honor and an exceptional opportunity to flourish, and all of that in my beautiful home province of Qu茅bec. You are welcome here and your story is special - feel free to contact me anytime to simply chat, if you have any questions or would like advice. I would love to hear about your journey toward medicine, and what sparked your flame!

I鈥檓 happy you are taking the time to explore Medicine at 平特五不中 and browsing around the different ambassadors!

My name is Mustafa and I grew up and attended schools in multiple countries in the Middle East, studying within the British educational system. Upon returning to Canada, I completed my DEC in Health Sciences, followed by a degree in Bioengineering. Throughout my undergraduate years, I completed multiple research and design projects alongside incredible colleagues in a great department. Thankfully, Medicine allows me to do it for life, where we also put together remarkable knowledge gained here at 平特五不中 to solve stimulating health problems. Amanda

Class of 2025

Languages: English, French, Italian (Novice)
Education: DEC Honours Health Science, Marianopolis College (2018-2020)

My name is Amanda, and I鈥檓 a 2nd year medical student at the Montreal Campus. I鈥檓 looking forward to meeting with you and helping out where I can!

Before medical school, I completed the Med-P program (the direct stream from CEGEP). Prior to that, I studied at Marianopolis College. Within medicine I have many interests, namely Genetics, Internal Medicine and Psychiatry 鈥 but I still have time to decide!

Outside of Academics, I鈥檝e been involved in Student Government both during my Med-P years, and during my two years of medicine. In Med-P and Med-1, I was the Academic Representative of my year, helping students succeed by preparing resources for them and advocating for them. I鈥檓 currently the Executive President of the Medical Student鈥檚 Society, meaning I represent all four years of medicine in my role. I鈥檓 also involved in the MSS MUSIC Club, specifically in the 鈥淢usic in the Wards鈥 project, which aims to promote music within the hospital for patients.

Outside of school, I work part-time at a pharmacy, as a tutor and as a pianist for a choir at a residence. Music and government/advocacy work is something I love, and I try to fuel those passions as much as I can. Recreationally, I take kickboxing lessons (I just started in September) and play soccer as intramurals!

What can I help you with? I think that I鈥檇 be a good person to chat about finding an adequate school-life balance, what various opportunities are at 平特五不中. I could also help explain the transition between Med-P and Med-1, how to adjust to such a heavy curriculum. I also currently live in Vaudreuil, and my commute is by public transit. My trip is often 3h00/30 per day, as my commute one way is between 1h30/45. If you are also living off island or far, I can speak to you about that experience.

Best of luck, and I鈥檇 encourage you to reach out for anything!

My name is Lauren and I was born and raised in the west island of Montreal. In my spare time, I love finding the best workout classes in the city, reading romance novels, immersing myself in new cultures through travel, hiking, and baking sweet treats to share with all of my loved ones! I have dreamed of studying medicine at 平特五不中 since I was in high school and am incredibly grateful that I have been given the opportunity to obtain my medical degree here. Hi my name is Jonathan Lebeau and I am a third year medical student at the Montreal campus. I come all the way from Houston, TX. I have a master鈥檚 degree in public health from Universit茅 de Paris Descartes and worked at lululemon selling leggings in Paris.

When I am not being a health care hero (lol), one can find me browsing March茅 Jean Talon, grabbing a drink with friends, or chilling in one of the city鈥檚 many parks. Dominique

Class of 2025

Languages: English, French, Romanian, German
Education: BSc Food Chemistry 鈥 Minor in Management (平特五不中), BSc Nursing 鈥 Honours (平特五不中).

Hi! My name is Dominique, and I am a third-year medical student (M3) studying at 平特五不中. I completed my first bachelor at 平特五不中 in Food Chemistry after which I worked in corporate sales and started to volunteer as a first responder for the city of Cote Saint Luc. It鈥檚 during my time volunteering that I had my first patient encounter and realized my passion for healthcare. After a year in the workforce, I decided to go back to school and do a second bachelor鈥檚 in nursing at 平特五不中. This degree taught me many skills, particularly the ability to adequately advocate for my patients needs. I ultimately decided to apply to medical school as I wanted a broader scope of practice. My decision to apply to 平特五不中 was a no-brainer as it is a world-renown medical school and would allow me to continue to work with a multicultural population throughout my studies. Additionally, 平特五不中 offers the Osler program which allows first year medical students to connect with upper year students as well as a working physician to discuss various aspects medical school.

Some fun facts about me are that I am a first generation Canadian and speak four languages: English, French, Romanian and German. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, cooking, playing tennis, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. If you have any questions don鈥檛 hesitate to reach out!

My name is Jenny, and I was born and raised here in Montreal. I also love to practice yoga/pilates and improvise silly songs over jam sessions with friends.

Passionate about too many subjects 鈥 from natural sciences to philosophy, performance arts to literature 鈥 it was initially challenging for me to picture a career path that would make me feel fulfilled. My name is Wassim, and I am a fourth-year medical student at 平特五不中鈥檚 Outaouais campus. I was born and raised in the Gatineau/Ottawa region, where I completed most of my education. I later moved to Montreal to pursue a DEC in Health Sciences at College Jean-de-Br茅beuf, after which I was thrilled to return to my hometown to continue my medical education.

Throughout my studies, I have developed a strong passion for promoting medical education and supporting my peers in achieving their academic goals.

Nathasha

Class of 2025

Languages: English, French
Education: IB Diploma (Pearson College UWC, 2015-2017); B.Sc. (Honours) Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience (平特五不中, 2021)
Senior Honours thesis focused on online health behaviour interventions with the 平特五不中 Health Psychology lab (2021) and Global Health Scholar focused on maternal and child health with La Maison Bleue (平特五不中, 2022)

Hello hello! I am Natasha (she/they), one of the Med3s doing 平特五不中's new clerkship program in Val d'Or this year. That means that I'm in this wonderful rural setting for the entire year and have the privilege of learning everything everyone in Montreal learns - but in a much smaller, one-on-one setting, learning from family doctors and specialists. Plus, I get to live near lakes & forests & endless possibilities for adventure. As someone who aims to practice rural medicine and who loves - well, who needs - to be outdoors as much as possible, it's amazing to be a part of the first cohort here!

Other than medicine and being outside (running, hiking, cross-country skiing, etc.), I love to host friends for elaborate feasts/brunches/late-night snacks, bake for my residents & co-interns, and to crochet (my current project is making hats for all of my friends' cats). As someone who is both queer and chronically ill, I am also drawn to advocacy work- because we have a long way to go before anything, especially medicine, is truly equitable for all. The projects I am currently involved in relate to trans experiences of healthcare at 平特五不中, opioid/drug decriminalization, and disability education in medicine. This draw towards advocacy also spills into my research work, which primarily focuses on marginalized experiences of perinatal care & related public health/policy applications.

Writing this little intro is a bit strange for me- perhaps because, as someone who fell into medicine more or less accidentally, I never did all that much research into med school. While I am very, very thankful to have ended up where I have, with the awesome cohort and the wonderful teachers and the fascinating field this is, things would have been much smoother had I actually talked to someone about all of it before jumping in headfirst. If you'd like to chat, I'd love to be that person for you- and everyone else on this page would love to be, too!

Education: DEC Health Sciences (Dawson College, 2012), B.Sc. Major in Kinesiology (平特五不中, 2015), M.Sc. A. OT. Major in Occupational Therapy (平特五不中, 2017)

Welcome to 平特五不中! My name is Jessica, and I am a 3rd year medical student. I have spent lots of time at 平特五不中鈥 from my undergrad to my master鈥檚 degree and now med school. It鈥檚 safe to say I have spent more time on these grounds than in high school. I was born and raised in Montreal, and I absolutely love this city! I am an exercise enthusiast and take advantage of any opportunity to get out and run or attend a nearby spin class. When not spending time in the hospital as a clerk, I love to bake and, of course, enjoy indulging in it too. Planning weekend getaways nearby to enjoy the great outdoors: hiking, kayaking, cross-country skiing, or the spa is always a good idea! Please don鈥檛 hesitate to reach out for any guidance or support. It would be my pleasure to be part of your journey!

平特五不中鈥檚 Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is not only situated on a beautiful campus but also part of a very multicultural city. It is renowned for its diverse and very welcoming student body, and its teaching personnel and variety of research opportunities make studying at 平特五不中 an enriching experience. The abundance of support systems in place for students and its inclusive and welcoming environment made it an excellent fit for my studies.

Welcome to the dynamic world of 平特五不中 Medicine! I鈥檓 thrilled that you鈥檙e considering this program and excited to share what makes it so special.

I鈥檓 Franco, a fourth-year medical student at 平特五不中鈥檚 Outaouais Campus, and I鈥檇 love to tell you about my journey. From a young age, I knew I wanted a career focused on helping people. While I explored other paths in high school and cegep, none resonated with me as deeply as medicine.

平特五不中 has been instrumental in my personal and professional growth, offering opportunities to lead and give back. Whether through my involvement in the 平特五不中 Medical Students Society or as co-founder of The Coda Foundation, a charity supporting cancer patients, this program has been a transformative experience. Outside of my academic and extracurricular commitments, you can find me playing soccer, discovering new music, or experimenting with recipes in the kitchen.

What sets 平特五不中 Medicine apart is its blend of academic rigor and a diverse, supportive community. The program not only offers immersive research opportunities and exceptional clinical training but also fosters close mentorship, particularly at the Outaouais Campus, where I鈥檝e benefited from smaller class sizes and a strong connection to the local community.

At 平特五不中, you鈥檒l experience a comprehensive educational philosophy that balances the science and human aspects of medicine. This approach will prepare you to thrive not only as a physician but also as a leader in the ever-evolving healthcare landscape.

Class of 2025

Languages: English, French
Education: MD degree from the University of Abidjan 2011; MSc in Pediatric (University of Yaound茅 1- Cameroon, 2016)

Hello!! Welcome to 平特五不中.

My name is Stephanie, I am a 4th-year medical student. I was born and grew up in Cameroon (central Africa). I joined 平特五不中 as an international medical graduate. I did my first medical studies in Ivory Coast (West Africa). For four years, I worked as a general practitioner in a third level rural hospital with missionaries鈥 doctors from USA, Australia etc鈥hen, over a year I oversaw the pediatric ward before working under the ministry of public health as a clinician to promote a better quality of care in remote regions.

I am particularly sensible to the effect of cultural differences in the quality of care; may be because I grew up, studied and now lives in different setting. That is why beside my medical studies I am reading and participating in seminaries related to the topic (WHO school of migrant and refugee health, 平特五不中 summer institute etc..).

While applying for a MDMC2 program, in fact I only applied at 平特五不中 (LoL). Why? First, it remains the top one in Qc, in term of quality of teaching with a lot of exposure, a range of subspecialities with medicine at the cutting edge of technology and an amazing simulation center. Also, we have a solid mentorship program, and a great team of wellness and carrier advisor.

If because you are an international medical graduate, a migrant or because of your cultural background you feel a kind, feel free to contact me. We can chat on how you could navigate in a university which provides more than student usually knows, while eating some pastry with tea 馃槉.
