12th annual Faculty of Science Undergraduate Research Conference
Dear members of the Faculty of Science, and of Departments in related Faculties,
I would like to invite you to the 12th annual Faculty of Science Undergraduate Research Conference, and ask you to please extend this invitation to students in your classrooms and labs.
On Thursday, October 20, 2016, students from across the Faculty of Science will present their research projects in the Arts Building Lobby, starting at 11:00am. A panel of distinguished 平特五不中 judges will adjudicate the projects. At 4:00 p.m. in adjoining Moyse Hall, certificates and prizes will be awarded, and distinguished alumnus Dr. Frederic Bertley (STEM education and outreach specialist; Senior Vice President of Science, The Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) will give the keynote address: 鈥淎 Note to Our Future Scientists: Pay Attention to the Importance of Science in a Growing Clueless Society鈥. The day will culminate with a reception.

I encourage you to come support our (and your) students, and check out their fascinating research projects.
Please also encourage students to come to the event. In particular, the poster session is an excellent opportunity to discover what undergraduate research is about and find out how to get involved by talking with peers. The keynote address will be a call for science literacy, science communication, and science engagement. Please consider announcing the conference in class. A PDF slide is attached to this message if you would like to make use of it. You can also download both PDF and PPT versions via:

With respects to research and graduate studies, by attending you can discover potential graduate students amongst the undergraduate presenters, and gain exposure to who is conducting work in particular research areas.
I extend sincere thanks to the many individuals in the Faculty of Science who do so much to ensure that our undergraduate students benefit from the best research opportunities. Now is the time for all of us (staff, students, and academics) to celebrate this, so please join us on Thursday, October 20, in the Arts Building.
Sincerely,
R. Bruce Lennox
Dean of Science
Tomlinson Professor of Chemistry
