Dobson Cup winner Ibrahim Kasujja on the competition experience

The 2021 ƽÌØÎå²»ÖÐ Dobson Cup competition positively facilitated the development of my personal and business skills.

The 2021 ƽÌØÎå²»ÖÐ Dobson Cup competition positively facilitated the development of my personal and business skills through the online course that was accessible on myCourses platform of ƽÌØÎå²»ÖÐ for the duration of the competition. Though I started the competition from outside of Canada, I had great experience as I was challenged to keep-up with the online courses during the so many nights in Uganda, but it would not be possible to make it to the finals if I wasn’t resilient, persistent, hardworking and hopeful. Even though, I faced tough times throughout the MDC competition, I am thankful that I was recognized as the top winner of the MCF Award of the 2021 ƽÌØÎå²»ÖÐ Dobson Cup.

I learnt a great wealth of business-related knowledge coupled with acquiring skills. Based on the modules that were shared via myCourses platform and the live sessions of pitches, I was able to acquire skills and knowledge on 5 key themes, and these are listed below;

  1. Business management fundamentals
  2. Human resource management fundamentals
  3. Sales and Marketing
  4. Budgeting and financial statements
  5. Pitch deck preparation and elevator pitch

Learning the above stated themes was a great addition to my career in Food Science and Human Nutrition; provided not having had a firm background in entrepreneurship and business, right from elementary education. As a result, I am now competent to keep on the challenge as I come-up with sustainable and innovative social protection solutions to take hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition in Africa.

As a team, we have been able to incorporate the not-for-profit social enterprise federally in Canada, and we are finalizing the registration step in Uganda. We have developed a website, and we are in the process of establishing a country office in Uganda. One of the most important things that I am grateful for, is the ability to create jobs for other youth. We hope to inaugurate the project, as soon as I meet the rest of the team in Uganda.
