Course Content

This two day interactive course is designed for ENT residents who wish to improve laryngology knowledge and phonosurgery skills. The course will cover common and uncommon voice disorders and their management. Participants will learn the basics of stroboscopy and the interpretation of stroboscopy findings so they can be incorporated into daily practice. The techniques of thyroplasty, percutaneous injection, vocal cord augmentation, in office biopsy and transnasal esophagoscopy will be demonstrated and practiced. The course includes a series of didactic lectures given by expert faculty and hands-on practical skills sessions using both cadaveric and animal models. This is the only hands-on course in Laryngology offered in Canada.

Course Objectives

  1. Understand the diagnosis and management of common vocal disorders
  2. Be able to perform stroboscopy and interpret the findings
  3. Have acquired the skills necessary for Type I Thyroplasty and laryngeal injection techniques
  4. Appreciate the indications, contraindications and steps for Percutaneous tracheotomy
  5. Provide an interactive forum for in depth discussion of complex cases in laryngology
