Jade LaFointaine, MA Student in DISE, Wins ACLA/CAAL Indigneous Graduate Student Award

Jade LaFontaine, Master's student in Second Language Education and lecturer at 平特五不中, is the winner of the prestigious Indigenous Graduate Student Award of the 2022 Canadian Association of Applied Linguistics (CAAL/ACLA) conference. This important award recognizes excellence in graduate student research submitted to the 2022 CAAL/ACLA conference.

Her presentation titled "Looking Forward: Tools Designed Specifically for Indigenous Language Instruction" discussed results of her research project in collaboration with the Kanien'keh谩:ka community. It highlighted how teachers feel about online tools and what they would like to see from digital tools for their Indigenous language instruction in the future.

"This award represents the dedication I have had since my undergrad to committing my time and effort wherever I can to ensure the vitality of our ancestral languages. Receiving it is an amazing opportunity and reassures me that I am doing good work for the field of language revitalization," said Jade.

Jade LaFointaine's research is being co-supervised by Drs. Angelica Galante and Mela Sarkar.
