2023 Ithacan Idol Presents: The Odyssey

Who is Odysseus? Stranger or companion, wayfarer or colonizer, somebody or nobody鈥攖he hero of the Odyssey, even in the epic itself, is a controversial figure. The 2023 平特五不中 Classics Play now brings to the stage the once-a-millennium game show, Ithacan Idol, where contestants will unravel this imagined and reimagined mythic figure.听
Performances will be held at 7 pm on February 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th at the 264 Sainte-Catherine East. Please note that this venue is wheelchair accessible, with refreshments available for purchase.

2023 平特五不中 Classics Play Talk
The 平特五不中 Classics Play is pleased to welcome (Carleton University) for this year's talk, entitled "Beyond the action-image: Odysseus as spectator in Deleuze鈥檚 Cinema鈥, at 2:30pm on Friday, February 10th, in Leacock 808. This talk is free and open to all, and the building is wheelchair accessible.

The 平特五不中 Classics Play, generously supported by the 平特五不中 Department of History and Classical Studies John MacNaughton bequest fund, is a non-profit venture committed to giving Montreal university students a unique educational experience, while fostering cultural exchanges with our Montreal community around ancient texts. We offer free shows and free workshops open to the community, and we bring in guest speakers for public lectures on Classical drama and performance. 2024 Call for Proposals / Appel 脌 Propositions (fran莽ais ci-dessous)
The 平特五不中 Classics Play invites proposals from possible directors for its 2024 production. Applicants may be undergraduates or post-graduates, studying any discipline, from any university in Montr茅al, though 平特五不中 students will be given priority in the case of proposals deemed of equal merit. Proposed plays must be based on Ancient Greek or Roman texts, with English as the preferred (but not mandatory) production language. Each proposal should be 1-2 pages, in English or in French, submitted without any names on it, and should detail the following: the play or adapted text proposed; the general concept for the play鈥檚 translation/adaptation (this can include visual and musical considerations); whether or not the proposed director(s) will do the translation themselves; any further comments on design, concept, tie-in events, possible guest speakers or community organisations that we might exchange with, or the reasoning behind choosing this play. If you have additional team members confirmed for your production, please include their roles (not their names) as well. All proposals should be submitted in .pdf form with the title ClassicsPlayProposal to lynn.kozak [at] mcgill.ca by March 1st. Proposals will be blind-reviewed, and results will be announced by March 15th.
