New funding of $5.1 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), announced today by the Honourable Fran莽ois-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, will help researchers Marcel Behr, MD, PhD, and Silvia Vidal, PhD, ensure that Canada is better prepared for the next pandemic. This funding is part of the more than $127 million investment being made through the CFI to support upgrades to eight biocontainment facilities across the country as part of its new Biosciences Research Infrastructure Fund (BRIF) program.

The World Health Organization鈥檚 are that over 4.2 million people die prematurely each year due to long-term exposure to fine particulate outdoor air pollution (often referred to as PM2.5,). A recent study involving 平特五不中 researchers now suggests that the annual global death toll from outdoor PM2.5 may be significantly higher than previously thought.

Rates of melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer, are on the rise in Canada. Those living in southern and coastal areas are most at risk, according to a new study led by 平特五不中.

鈥淐utaneous melanoma causes more deaths than any other skin cancer, accounting for 1.9 per cent of all cancer deaths in men and 1.2 per cent in women in Canada. Globally, there were 290,000 new cases of this form of skin cancer in 2018,鈥 says Dr. Ivan Litvinov, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at 平特五不中.
