With a passion for fundraising and volunteering, in 2014 Olivia Monton created her own foundation, known as听, to support local and grassroots charitable organizations in Montreal. Currently a second-year medical student at 平特五不中, Olivia is also involved in several student-led committees, which allow her to contribute to the improvement of medical education and simulation-based training for medical students, in addition to promoting interdisciplinary collaboration between various healthcare professions.

惭肠骋颈濒濒鈥檚听听(FMGSS) was recently听recognized by the Post Graduate Student Society (PGSS) of 平特五不中听University awarded听both the听听of the Year Award听and the Best Academic Event Award. The awards were presented during the 2018听PGSS Awards Night on April 12, an event that听aims to recognize students, student groups听and student-run events that have proven themselves to be听outstanding within PGSS.

Collaboration between departmental members Drs. D. Reinhardt and P. Campeau has received new 5-year funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for the grant entitled 鈥淩ole of fibronectin mutations in spondylometaphyseal dysplasia and idiopathic scoliosis鈥 in the amount of $680,850. Congratulations!

H茅l猫ne Riel-Salvatore has hung up her hat as a teacher and program coordinator at 平特五不中 French Language Centre, but will continue to work towards better access to health and social services for English-speaking communities in Qu茅bec. Over her career, she initiated and animated FLC French courses for 平特五不中 HSS students with a constant passion and energy, and retirement will be anything but idle. H茅l猫ne Riel-Salvatore plans to remain active 鈥 including, to our great good fortune, within Dialogue 平特五不中 as senior advisor for Languages and Cultures.

Anglais Sant茅, the SCS language training program for HSS professionals has been awarded the 2017 鈥淧rix d鈥檈xcellence鈥 of L鈥橝ssociation canadienne d鈥櫭ヾucation des adultes des universit茅s de langue fran莽aise (ACDEAULF). This prestigious award is given to a francophone or bilingual university in Canada for a particular achievement or for a significant contribution to the development of French-language adult education over a long period of time.听

On October 26, 2017, the Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN) recognized the work accomplished by Jim Carter throughout his long career by awarding him the Sheila and Victor Goldbloom prize. Created in 2009, the Goldbloom Prize is an initiative of the QCGN to underline exceptional contributions of people who, like Sheila and Victor Goldbloom, have devoted themselves to the greater vitality of their English-speaking communities both within Quebec and within Canada.

In the spring of 2017, the Dialogue 平特五不中 management team wanted to take advantage of the Project鈥檚 renewal period to identify lessons learned during implementation of the Language Training Program over the past three years and see what improvements they could make to it for the next five years.

The team wanted to take advantage of the knowledge and experience of respondents who are responsible for language training at the CISSS and CIUSSS in Quebec4. These respondents play an essential leading role in the implementation of the Language Training Program.

The Health Care Access for Linguistic Minoritie (HCALM)-Network will hold its 2017 annual conference on the topic of 鈥榣anguage and health 鈥 ethical and policy issues鈥 in September 28-30. The conference will bring together theories, frameworks, concepts and methods from a broad range of disciplines in the medical sciences, social sciences and the humanities. It will address the significant ethical and policy issues at the interface of public health and language (including sign language) policy, broadly interpreted.

Mastering documentation is one of the pathways to translation excellence. Mastering it in more than one language is an added value. Such is the case for Cheryl Smeall, who is the 2017 recipient of the 平特五不中 Associates Prize in Translation (French-English). Dr. Smeall received this distinction at the spring graduation ceremony when she was awarded a Certificate in Translation in the French to English option.
