Introduction
As we have seen from the research, SCI peer mentors may experience different challenges (e.g., emotional toll, burnout) in delivering peer mentorship. Therefore, our partnership aims to develop resources to support SCI peer mentors to ensure their well-being.
Comics
The comic scripts showcase how a conversation could take place between a SCI peer mentor and their mentee. Community-based SCI organizations need to be aware of these possible situations and build a support system for their mentors.听
Comic 1 describes how Alex (the mentee) gets to know Carey (the mentor) at the rehab center.
Comic 2 showcases a situation in which Alex wants to add Carey on Facebook. This request challenges Carey's ability to navigate their role between a "friend" and a "mentor".
Comic 3 shows that Alex returns home and reaches out to Carey by a phone call. Carey is on vacation and they decide to not respond to Alex immediately as a way to protect their wellbeing.听
