Two scholarships are awarded each year: one for distinction in the Faculty of Arts and the other for distinction in the Faculty of Science. The scholarships are tenable for one year of advanced study, preferably in a British or European university, although North American universities will also be considered.
The late Right Honourable Lord Atholstan founded the scholarships to commemorate Dr. Charles E. Moyse, who served the University as Professor of English, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and Vice-Principal.
Past Moyse winners have attended universities in France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and many more. Here are a few recent examples:聽

How to Apply
Faculty of Arts Students, please visit the Faculty of Arts site and click on Moyse Travelling Scholarship in the column on the left for application instructions.
Full applications, whether from B.Sc. students who have graduated this past Fall 2023 or who will graduate in Spring 2024. 聽
A full application will include:
- Application Form.
- Two Letters of Recommendation from referees who are familiar with the applicant's work (sent by the referee electronically to ac.science [at] mcgill.ca (AC Science). Letters should be sent in PDF format).
- Please note that the selection committee will review applicants' unofficial 平特五不中 transcript which does not need be sent when applying.
Interviews will be conducted with candidates who are shortlisted for the Moyse Scholarship. Such candidates must be available for a virtual聽interview (Zoom) during the last weeks of April 2024. We thank all applicants for their interest, however only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for interviews.
The winner of the Moyse Traveling Scholarship will be informed after the results of the final examinations in the final year of the undergraduate degree.
If there is no winner in either Arts or Science, both scholarships may be awarded to applicants in the other faculty. In the absence of applicants of sufficient merit in both of the faculties, applications from final year students in other undergraduate faculties, or from graduate students, may be considered.
