Mark Nickerson Memorial Lecture

This annual lecture听was established in honor of the late Mark Nickerson who was Chair of the Department of Pharmacology at 平特五不中 from 1967 鈥 1975. After his death in 1998, an endowment fund named the 鈥淢ark Nickerson Memorial Lecture Award鈥 was established by a committee that included Drs. A.C.Cuello, Les Iversen, George Kunos, and Sir John Vane.听 Mark Nickerson made seminal contributions to the discovery and development of alpha adrenergic blocking drugs and he is credited with the discovery of the haloalkylamine adrenergic blocking agents. His charismatic personality as well as his scientific leadership made him one of the founders of academic pharmacology as a distinct discipline in Canada.

Theodore Sourkes Lecture Series in Neuropharmacology听

Professor Theodore Sourkes,听PhD, FRSC, OC, was a 平特五不中 Emeritus Professor with strong links to the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. He made outstanding contributions in Neurochemistry, Neuropharmacology, Neurosciences and Neurology. His early work resulted in the development and application of false transmitter for the therapeutic treatment of hypertension (Aldomet). This annual lecture series is possible thanks to a generous donation from a 平特五不中 Alumni and Sourkes disciple Professor Moussa Youdim, Technion, Haifa Israel.
