Dental Implant Surgery

Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically placed into the craniofacial skeleton, most commonly the jaws, to support prostheses designed to replace missing teeth and/or hard and soft tissues of the face. Surgeons work closely with dentists and prosthodontists who are tasked with designing, fabricating, and delivering the prosthesis that interfaces with the implants.

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery uses state of the art technology including cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), virtual surgical planning, and guided surgery to provide the highest standard of care. The patients referred to the department often have complex reconstructive needs that require hard and soft tissue grafting in order to facilitate implant placement or have significant medical comorbidities that are best managed in a hospital setting. In addition, cases are treated in a multi-disciplinary manner, ensuring that treatment plans are comprehensive and ideally suited to the patient.
