Doctor of Science, honoris causa
Douglas J. Cardinal, O.C., F.R.A.I.C., F.R.C.A., M.R.S.C.
B.Arch. (University of Texas)

Born in Alberta of Metis and Blackfoot heritage, Douglas Joseph Cardinal has dedicated his life to creating beautiful, thriving and harmonious environments. He is one of a small number of architects whose body of work has defined a uniquely Canadian style: rooted in the land and shaped by local culture and the forces of nature.
One of Mr. Cardinal's first projects outside Alberta and the Northwest Territories brought Prairie expressionism to central Canada through the design of the Canadian Museum of Civilization - now Canadian Museum of History 鈥 in Gatineau, Quebec. Acknowledged internationally as a technologically complex building that reframed museum architecture, the CMH is a culturally significant building that was designed to accommodate a shifting perspective on Indigenous history and national culture.听

For more than five decades, Mr. Cardinal has worked in harmony with his clients and his community to produce a breathtaking collection of award-winning buildings that are artistically original and always well crafted, intelligently planned, and not merely beautiful but delightful.听

As one of Canada鈥檚 most celebrated architects, in 2006, Douglas Cardinal was conferred the designation of 鈥淲orld Master of Contemporary Architecture鈥 and the following year, was honoured as one of four Canadian architects chosen by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and featured on a special series of Canadian postage stamps.

Arthur B. McDonald, C.C., O.Ont., O.N.S., F.R.S., F.R.S.C., Nobel Laureate
B.Sc., M.Sc. (Dalhousie University), Ph.D. (California Institute of Technology)

Canadian physicist, Arthur McDonald studies neutrinos 鈥 tiny subatomic particles that are one of the fundamental building blocks of the universe. The findings of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory Collaboration that he led, first published in late-2001 and mid-2002, were heralded as a breakthrough discovery. The discovery helped recast the fundamental scientific understandings of how matter works by provided evidence that the 鈥淪tandard Model鈥 of particle physics was incomplete. Dr. McDonald鈥檚 research demonstrated clearly that neutrinos change their identities on their way to Earth from the Sun. This discovery gave credence to theories that neutrinos have a mass greater than zero. For his scientific leadership leading to this result, he was co-recipient of the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physics together with Professor Takaaki Kajita of the University of Tokyo. He has also received many other scientific honours and accolades in Canada and around the world.

It has been said that some people can change how we see the world, Dr. Arthur B. McDonald has changed the way we see the universe.

Physicien canadien, Arthur听McDonald 茅tudie les neutrinos 鈥 de minuscules particules subatomiques qui constituent l鈥檜ne des composantes 茅l茅mentaires de l鈥橴nivers.
Quant 脿 lui, M.听Arthur听B.听McDonald a r茅ussi 脿 transformer notre conception de l鈥橴nivers.
