Research in our Department

An integral component of our department is its research program, covering major clinical and basic science subspecialties in both Neurology and Neurosurgery. Our faculty members conduct their innovative research at several centres and facilities throughout the MUHC and affiliated institutions. At the heart of this research is the desire to improve the lives of patients afflicted with neurological disease.

As part of their training, and under the supervision of the department鈥檚 faculty, residents in both the Neurology and Neurosurgery residency programs must undertake substantial research projects, further contributing to the discoveries in critical areas of study such as, movement disorders, stroke, neuromuscular diseases, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, dementia, and brain tumours, among others.

As the world鈥檚 first and only Open Science institution, the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital (The Neuro), part of the MUHC, is paving the way towards a system of sharing data and findings with the global academic and research community. This limitless and open approach will undoubtedly accelerate the possible discovery of novel treatments and cures, impacting lives world-wide.
