Neurology Day 2022

The Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery held its annual Neurology Day on Thursday, June 23, 2022, celebrating the year's graduating residents.

The fourth year Neurology Residents gave their research presentation at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital (the Neuro), followed by the annual Donald Baxter Lecture. This year's lecture, “Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) – If I only had a brain," was delivered by Professor Jon Stone, Professor of Neurology in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NHS Lothian), and the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, University of Edinburgh, UK. Dr. Donald Baxter (1926-2012) was former Chair of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Director of the MNI for eight years.

The 2021-2022 winner of the Neurology Teaching Award went to Dr. Chenjie Xia, in recognition of her excellence in clinical teaching. Dr. Xia is a Cognitive Neurologist based at the Jewish General Hospital.

This year's Adele D’Amato Scholarship went to Dr. Samantha Rivet and Dr. Sandra Reiter-Campeau, in recognition of both their scholarly activity and contribution to educational aspects of the Neurology Residency Program. Dr. Rivet and Dr. Reiter-Campeau are fourth year residents in the program.

Ms. Sandy Lavigne and Ms. Anna Puccio were the recipients of this year's Award of Distinction, for having dedicated their time, energy, and leadership to make a tangible difference in the many facets of the Neurology Residency program, always in the spirit of excellence and beyond the call of duty. Both Ms. Lavigne and Ms. Puccio are taking well-deserved retirements after their many years with the MUHC.

Residents completing the Neurology Residency Program this year are Dr. Jean-Pierre Falet and Dr. Austin Zaloum in Adult Neurology, and in Pediatric Neurology, Dr. Mohammed Ashour and Dr. Olivier Fortin. They are pictured here with Program Directors, Dr. Stuart Lubarsky (Adult Program), and Dr. Geneviève Legault and Dr. Ken Myers (Pediatric Program).
