Child Neurology

The 5-year child neurology training program consists of 1 year of general pediatrics and 4 years of neurology. The majority of the clinical neurology exposure is at the Montreal Children's Hospital, which relocated to new state of the art facilities at the Glen campus in May 2015.听Included in the Montreal Children's Hospital neurology experience are an in-patient neurology clinical teaching unit, an in-patient consultation service, and out-patient clinics. The Neurology consultation service is one of the busiest in the hospital, seeing large volumes of consultations from the emergency department, neonatal and pediatric ICUs, and in-patient wards. Residents spend 10 months in Adult Neurology rotations mainly on consultation services. In addition, there is a 6 months research block where residents have exposure to either clinical or fundamental research, depending on their interest.

The following are highlights of our program:

  1. High volume and wide spectrum of exposure to in-patient consultations from the emergency department, neonatal and pediatric intensive care units and wards.
  2. Wide range of highly听specialized clinics in addition to General Neurology clinics including: Neurogenetics, Intractable Epilepsy, Neuromuscular, Neonatal Neurology, Demyelinating, Cerebral Palsy, Developmental delay, stroke, Brain Malformations clinics
  3. A team of 9 staff neurologists with a wide range of research interests including cerebral palsy, neuroinflammation, spinomuscular atrophy, neurogenetics of cerebral malformations
  4. Exposure to community Neurology Clinics (Montreal and Northern Quebec)
  5. Residents Continuity Clinic
  6. High volume of听neurophysiological testing including EEG, telemetry, intracranial study听 and corticography, ABR, SER, EMG/NCS
  7. Excellent Epilepsy surgery program with intra-op MRI
  8. Integration with 平特五不中 Adult Neurology Residency Program
  9. 6 month research block, during which residents can initiate and complete a research project in clinical听neurology or neurosciences
  10. High caliber academic Teaching Curriculum in Pediatric Neurology听and General Neurology. This includes a weekly pedagogic half-day, a weekly teaching session on pediatric-neurology dedicated topics and weekly neuroradiology rounds, general neurology grand rounds, and pediatric neurology grand rounds.
