The 平特五不中 Research Centre for Studies in Aging (MCSA) at the听Douglas Mental Health University Institute

The MCSA is investigating causes and treatments of the various types of cognitive decline with age, especially Alzheimer鈥檚 disease (AD). The MCSA has played a pioneering role in identifying ApoE4 as increasing the risk for late onset AD, testing symptomatic drugs approved in Canada, and new ones aiming at disease stabilization.

We have a special interest and expertise in early onset (before age 65) dementias. Although Alzheimer鈥檚 disease is a common form of dementia in younger people, other causes must be investigated, such as frontotemporal dementia. Furthermore, other neurological diseases or health issues such as stress, anxiety or depression can cause cognitive and behavioral symptoms mimicking dementia.

Our clinic collaborates with other experts at 平特五不中, using biomarkers such as cerebrospinal fluid examination and neuroimaging (MRI and PET) to evaluate patients with mild cognitive impairment and atypical dementias. The PET and MRI technologies combined with our clinical expertise, allow for an early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of the conditions causing cognitive decline. We perform lumbar punctures on site at the 平特五不中 Research Centre for Studies in Aging, and neuroimaging studies (PET scans) at the Montreal Neurological Institute.
