Finalists announced for the Wirth Vocal Prize

The three finalists听chosen to compete for the Wirth Vocal Prize this year are mezzo-soprano Simone McIntosh, bass-baritone Igor Mostovoi and bass Jean-Philippe Mc Clish. 听These singers, selected in an earlier-held preliminary round, will each present a thirty minute programme made up of pieces performed in a minimum of three languages and including at least one opera aria. The winner (who will be announced at the end of the 听evening) will receive a prize of $25 000 and will be invited to perform at recitals, including one at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. The jury is made up of pianist Michael McMahon, soprano Joan Patenaude-Yarnell and the Director General of the Op茅ra de Montr茅al, Patrick Corrigan, and will be chaired by St茅phane Lemelin, pianist and Head of Performance at the Schulich School of Music.

The Wirth Vocal Prize competition will be held at 7:00 p.m. on 听November 20 in Pollack Hall, and the event is free and open to the public. 听It will also be webcast here:听.

About the Wirth Vocal Prize 听The Wirth Vocal Prize,, established as a result of Elizabeth Wirth鈥檚 2015 landmark gift to the School, is awarded annually to an exceptional voice student at the Schulich School of Music in recognition of outstanding accomplishment as a singer and significant promise for an international career.
