New co-director joins Cr茅peau Centre leadership

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Michelle Cumyn will join the leadership team of the Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau Centre for Private and Comparative Law. She will team up with current director Professor Mark Antaki, BCL鈥96, LLB鈥96, who has been at the helm of the renowned centre since 2020. They will serve as co-directors until 2026.

A prominent civil and comparative law expert, Michelle Cumyn, BCL鈥92, LLB鈥92, joined 平特五不中 Law as full professor in 2023. She was editor of Les Cahiers de droit from 2007 to 2010 and she held the Chaire de redaction juridique Louis-Philippe-Pigeon from 2015 to 2020. She is the editor of the Minerve Collection published by the Presses de l'Universit茅 Laval. She has participated in several working groups of the Uniform Law Conference of Canada and is a member of its advisory committee. She is co-author, with Wainwright Professor Emeritus Pierre-Gabriel Jobin, Ad E, of a book on the law of sale, and with Wainwright Professor Emerita Madeleine Cantin Cumyn, of a treatise on the administration of the property of another. She has published articles in the civil law on standard form contracts, crowdfunding, public order, contractual associations, solidary obligations, suretyship and assignment.

Founded in 1975 by the late Professor Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau, the Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau Centre for Private and Comparative Law endeavours to promote the civilian tradition in Canada and develop it through a philosophy of openness to the lessons to be learned from other legal traditions. It brings together legal scholars and academics from Quebec and abroad with a view to renewing the theoretical investigations of Quebec鈥檚 fundamental private law institutions.
