Capstone Research

BREE 490 and BREE 495 are the Capstone Engineering Design courses, which are required for the B.Eng. (Bioresource Engineering) degree program.

These courses are conducted over two consecutive semesters in the final year. Students draw on their courses in the program to undertake the design. In BREE 490, students work in teams to define an engineering design problem, review the literature, analyze different options to solve the design, and give consideration to the economic, social and environmental sustainability. Calculations, and reference to the appropriate codes and standards are essential to the design process.

In BREE 495, the teams work on the most sustainable and feasible solution to the design problem defined in BREE 490. The design is finalized, supported by calculations, model simulations where appropriate, and engineering drawings. A prototype is built and tested, and data collected and analyzed to verify the chosen design. In both BREE 490 and BREE 495, design reports are prepared and presented both orally and in writing.

BREE 495 design project reports from past years are housed in eScholarship@平特五不中.
