Hands-on learning and exposure to the industry
Macdonald campus is home to its renown Macdonald campus farm, which includes a dairy barn, a poultry barn, a large animal research unit, a horticulture research center with vegetable fields, an orchard and a small vineyard, and an experimental farm with fields of cereals, oilseeds and forages. FMT students have access to all these facilities during their classes and labs, as well as to a brand-new high-tech greenhouse and science and computer labs.
The FMT program includes four internships (a.k.a. stages): two internships of one week each during the first year, and two summer internships of a minimum of 10 weeks each. These internships enable FMT students to relate their academic work to the reality of farming and the agri-food sector.
Frequent visits to a vast variety of farms expose students to different technologies and management styles and allow them to observe the individual challenges and successes of other farmers and to learn from their experiences. Industry experts regularly visit the classes to present current trends, technologies and regulations. Students also have the opportunity to visit industry events.
Where will this program lead you?
Many graduates of the Farm Management and Technology program grew up on family farms where they return after graduation to take over certain responsibilities and, in many cases, part of the ownership. Others start their own farms or pursue careers as farm managers, technicians, or in agricultural businesses like machinery, feed, seed, etc. Some graduates choose to continue their education with studies in agrology or other related disciplines at university (there is a pathway leading from FMT to the degree programs at the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences).
Graduates of Farm Management and Technology can become members of and . They also qualify for an establishment grant of up to $50,000 from if they start farming before the age of 40 in Quebec.

What do I need to apply?
听
Quebec applicants
The minimum academic entrance requirements are a Quebec Secondary School Diploma (DES in French), or its equivalent and the successful completion of the following five courses:
- Secondary IV History and Citizenship Education or History of Quebec and Canada
- Secondary IV Science and Technology or Applied Science and Technology
- Secondary IV Mathematics
- Secondary V Language of Instruction
- Secondary V Second Language.
Non-Quebec Canadian applicants
The minimum entrance requirements for students from Ontario are the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), including but not limited to the following courses (these are the minimum required, higher levels in all subjects, particularly math and science are an asset):
- French language proficiency of C1 on or equivalent. A test result is required.
- Grade 11 English as a second language (French schools)
- Science: SNC2P (recommended with TCJ20 or TDJ20 or TMJ20) or SNC2D (desired with TCJ20 or TDJ20 or TMJ20)
- Mathematics: MFM2P or MPM2D (higher levels are highly recommended)
Ontario students who have completed Grade 11 with the required courses and 22 credits, but who do not hold an OSSD, may be admissible.
For all Canadian students, the minimum French requirement is a proficiency of C1 on or equivalent. A test result is required.
Note: The minimum grade to pass a subject in Quebec high school is 60%. We recognize that a passing grade in another province may be set at 50%, but we maintain the right to base application decisions on grades over 60%.
International applicants
High school diploma with courses equivalent to Quebec high school curriculum.
A recognized French proficiency test is required, with test results attesting a language proficiency of C1听on or equivalent. International students may also be required to complete an .

- All candiates must make arrangements for an interview prior to admission to the program.
- Students should have a good practical knowledge of farming. One year of experience is recommended, but under special conditions a four-month summer season is acceptable.
- We strongly encourage incoming students to acquire their driver鈥檚 permit (both for cars and farm equipment) before coming to Macdonald campus. This is first for safety reasons, given that students may work with farm equipment during the first semester. As well, most farmers require their employees and trainees (stagiaires) to drive and possess the appropriate driver鈥檚 license.
