Awards and Scholarships

The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences has numerous funding opportunities to support your academic endeavours.

Entrance Scholarships

平特五不中 offers all incoming students an opportunity to be considered for a scholarship ranging from $3000 to $10 000.

  • One year: Eligibility is based solely on academic achievement. All eligible candidates are automatically considered for the one-year scholarship.听
  • Major: Eligibility is based on outstanding academic achievement as well as leadership qualities in school and community activities.听

In-course Award

Between $500- $5000 is awarded at the end of each academic year to U1 and U2 students who have excelled in their studies.

These awards are supported by the generosity of alumni and companies who, over the years, have donated to 平特五不中 to inspire and reward top Earth Science students in Major and Honours programs.

Eligibility:

  • You must be registered in a Major or Honours program in Geology, Planetary Sciences, Earth System Sciences, and Physics and Geophysics (students in minor programs are not eligible)
  • You must be registered full-time for both the Fall and Winter semesters
  • You must have completed at least 27 credits in Fall and Winter (Field School credits included)
  • You must have an average GPA of 3.6 or more from the Fall and Winter semesters.

All students who meet these criteria are automatically considered for the award. The amount is credited to the student鈥檚 fee account and will go towards the tuition charged for the coming year.

Important:

  • Credits transferred for courses taken at other institutions cannot count towards eligibility.
  • Courses completed under the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory option are excluded.
  • Students in Minor programs within the department are not eligible.
  • Students in their graduating year are not eligible.

No applications are required. Awards are made on the basis of academic standing in the regular session (unless otherwise stated)听

National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA)

The NSERC USRA awards over $6000 (plus host institution contribution) in funding for students who will be doing research over the summer.

Important:

  • Available only to Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
  • Applications must be submitted through the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
  • Research can occur in a lab, field, or both.
  • Students who have not yet been accepted into a graduate program at the end of their U3 years are still eligible.听

**Deadlines for the Earth and Planetary Sciences department are generally set in February.

Science Undergraduate Research Awards (SURA)

The SURA awards a minimum of $7000 to undergraduate students to engage in 15 weeks of full-time research and development activity under the supervision of a 平特五不中 science professor.

Important:

  • Available to both Canadian and international 平特五不中 students
  • Must be registered in a B.Sc. & B.A & Sc. Science program
  • Awards will not be awarded to students holding similar funding (i.e. NSERC, SSHRC, FRQS, etc).
  • Students who have not yet been accepted into a graduate program at the end of their U3 years are still eligible.
