Post-PhD Graduate Diploma in School/Applied Child Psychology

The Post-PhD Graduate Diploma in School/Applied Psychology enables holders of a doctorate in Psychology to pursue further studies in School/Applied Child Psychology. The course of study is adapted to the background of each student. The program includes exceptionally one, or typically two, years of courses and practica, plus a year of Internship. Students register on a per-credit basis (including Internship). IMPORTANT NOTE: Regarding the required internship place, this must be full-time placement and students cannot fulfill this requirement at the place of employment.

Accreditation

All elements of this postdoctoral graduate diploma are selected from the professional components of the PhD in School/Applied Child Psychology, which is accredited in the School Psychology category by the American Psychological Association (APA). Graduates of a re-specialization program are normally accorded the same recognition as graduates of the accredited program. Language requirements

Students are not required to demonstrate knowledge of a second language within this program; however, any student wishing to be licensed as a professional psychologist in Quebec must have a working knowledge of French. Accreditation status may be confirmed by contacting the accrediting bodies.

Academic background & requirements

    • An earned doctorate in Educational Psychology, another area of Psychology, or a closely related discipline (to be recognized at the Program Director's discretion).
    Students may be asked to provide further details in support of any request for a course exemption, e.g., course outlines, examples of work done in the course, or a letter from the instructor or department where the material is claimed to have been covered.

    International applicants

    Proficiency in English

    Applicants to graduate studies whose mother tongue is not English and who have not obtained (or are about to obtain) an undergraduate or graduate degree from a recognized foreign institution where English is the language of instruction or from a recognized institution in Canada or the US (anglophone or francophone), must submit documented proof of proficiency in oral and written English.

    Appropriate exam results must be submitted prior to the application deadline and submitted directly from the language testing proficiency office to 平特五不中.     In each case, you must ensure that the official test results are sent directly to 平特五不中 (平特五不中 Institution Code: 0935) by the testing service. Applications will not be considered if test results are not available.听 Note: TOEFL results are only valid for two years from the date the test was written.

    Applicants whose mother tongue is not English may be asked to demonstrate an English-language proficiency beyond the submission of the language proficiency test scores.

      uApply Online Application

      STEP 1. Complete uApply听Online听Application

      • Complete an online听平特五不中 uApply听application for admission.听Applicants should review the abovementioned program听eligibility requirements听prior听to starting their online application. Applicants should review the GPS step-by-step听Applying and Admissions Help Site听before starting their application.听Note: in order to finalize and submit your uApply听application, a听non-refundable application fee听is required.
      • Built into the uApply online application are numerous questions requiring personal information specific to every applicant. Program specific requirements within the application are as follows:
          • Letters of Reference: Within the online application, applicants听must provide valid institutional e-mail addresses for听three (3)听referees.听平特五不中 will send an email to each referee applicants identify on the application form, asking for a reference in support of their application to be admitted.听Referees will be invited to login to a secure portion of the 平特五不中 website where they will be required to answer questions about the applicant and will be given the ability to 1) input (via text box) a reference letter either by typing it in directly or by cut-and-paste from an existing document or 2) to upload a letter of reference in PDF format.

      STEP 2.听Uploading supporting documents via uApply

      • Within uApply, applicants must upload (in PDF format)听the following supporting documentation听by the听January 15 application deadline.听(More details on the uploading process can be viewed on the uApply.听
        1. Transcripts: An听unofficial copy of your complete university-level academic record to date must be uploaded听through uApply听- including any 平特五不中 transcripts.听(Quebec residents:听CEGEP transcripts are not required).听All transcripts received via the upload process are considered听unofficial.听听If you are offered admission, you will also need to provide official transcripts (sent to us by mail in a sealed envelope directly from the institution).听Your offer of admission will be contingent upon the receipt and verification of these official documents.听Please do not send these official records until we request them from you.
        2. Curriculum Vitae (CV): A completed curriculum vitae using the ECP听Curriculum Vitae Form听[.doc] must be uploaded through uApply.
        3. Personal Statement:听A statement听no longer听than 3 pages in length must be uploaded through uApply.听Please write the words 'PERSONAL STATEMENT' as well as your first and last name at the top of the page of your pdf document.听The personal statement should speak to your听experience, career plans, and program appropriateness for your future endeavours and anything else which might be relevant to your application.
        4. International applicants only: Submission of documented proof of English language proficiency, if applicable, as described in the Admissions notes above.

      Notification & confirmation of acceptance

      1. By听April 1st of each year, candidates offered potential positions in the program will receive听by email听a听"Recommendation of Acceptance"听sent to the听email address they provided in uApply. This letter serves to inform the candidate that the Admissions Review Committee has agreed to recommend them into the program and that their application is being transmitted to 平特五不中's Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) for final review and acceptance. In most cases, this review takes approximately 7-10 days.
      2. After review by GPS, successful candidates will be contacted by GPS with an听official "Offer of Admission".
      3. Candidates are then required to听respond to their听offer of admission听on-line using your uApply听account.
