Current Award Competitions

Below are award competitions currently in progress. For more information on funding available to graduate students, see Funding Opportunities.

  • NSERC Master's Fellowships

    Deadline to : December 1 (8:00 p.m. ET)

    To be considered eligible for support you must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada. Please refer to the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies GPS website or the for more information on eligibility requirements, on-line application and required supporting documents.

    Applicants are not required to submit their application to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Applications will be made available to the Department for evaluation in mid-December.

    Note: Applicants who are not currently enrolled in their intended graduate program must submit an application for admission to ƽÌØÎå²»ÖÐ no later than December 15. Please refer to our application process website for information on requirements and how to apply.

    Award notifications to applicants: early April 2024

  • NSERC CGS-Doctoral

    To be considered eligible for support the Canada Graduate Scholarships Doctoral Program you must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada. Please refer to the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website or the for detailed information.

    The deadline to submit your application via ResearchNet is: October 1 (8:00 p.m. ET)

  • FRQ-NT Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (Natural Science and Technology)

    All graduate students are encouraged to apply for Provincial Agency FRQ Awards. Some Québec residency restrictions apply.Ìý Please visit the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website for links to the agency websites and webinar presentations.

Letter of Understanding (LOU)

PhD students are required to signÌýa Letter of Understanding with their supervisor (and co-supervisor if applicable). An optional Mutual Expectations Survey is available to help facilitate the discussion between student and supervisor. The LOU must be uploaded to myProgress. Master's students are encouraged to sign aÌýLetter of UnderstandingÌýwith their supervisor and email the LOU to the grad.ece [at] mcgill.ca (ECE Graduate Program Office).

Mandatory research progress tracking

The supervisor together with the student (Master's and PhD) must complete aÌýResearch Progress Tracking Form [PDF] and submit it by email to the grad.ece [at] mcgill.ca (ECE Graduate Programs Office)Ìýno later thanÌýAugustÌý31st each year.

Orientation

Orientation for all new* graduate students who are starting in Fall 2024 will be held early in the Fall term.Ìý Students will be emailed details as they become available.Ìý Attendance is mandatory.Ìý

*New students to ƽÌØÎå²»ÖÐ and/or ƽÌØÎå²»ÖÐ students starting a new graduateÌýprogram.

Registration

  • Newly admitted students for January 2024Ìý- must register for the Winter 2024Ìýterm between December 5, 2023Ìý²¹²Ô»å January 4, 2024, inclusive, to avoid late registration fees. Detailed instructions will be emailed to student towards the end of November.
  • Current (returning) studentsÌý- must register for the Fall 2023Ìý²¹²Ô»å Winter 2024Ìýterms between May 29Ìý²¹²Ô»å August 14, 2024, inclusive, to avoid late registration fees.ÌýÌýDetailed instructions will be emailed to students towards the end of May.
  • Newly admitted students for September 2024Ìý- must register for the Fall 2024Ìý²¹²Ô»å Winter 2025Ìýterms between July 2Ìý²¹²Ô»å August 14, 2024, inclusive, to avoid late registration fees. Detailed instructions will be emailed to students towards the end of June.

Thesis submission

Students must access myThesis to make the initial submission of their thesis. It is recommended that this process be started approximately 2 months prior to the intended date of initial thesis submission.
