Withdrawing from a course
After the Add/Drop听deadline in the Fall and Winter terms, there is a period of a few days during which you may withdraw with a grade of "W" and a full refund of course fees. After the Withdrawal (with refund) deadline, there is a period during which withdrawal from a course will also result in a grade of "W" but no course fees will be refunded. See Dates and Deadline for more information.
After the final withdrawal (without refund) deadline, students in exceptional circumstances may receive permission to withdraw from a course with no impact on their GPA.

How do I withdraw from a course?
After the Course Change (Add/Drop) Period, there is a period of time during each term when you may still withdraw from courses on Minerva without academic penalty. You may听withdraw from your courses听in any given term using听Minerva听up to the FINAL听course听withdrawal deadline. There are two deadlines to withdraw鈥攐ne that will allow for a full tuition refund, and a later one with no refund. Withdrawing from your last course in any given term constitutes a听University withdrawal.
Approval to withdraw after the FINAL withdrawal WITHOUT听REFUND deadline will be granted only in exceptional circumstances. A written request for such consideration, accompanied by substantial documentation, must be submitted to the BCom Program. Students whose circumstances require withdrawal from their complete program should see an adviser in the BCom Student Affairs Office.
In order to make a request to withdraw from a course(s) after the withdrawal deadline, you must do the following:
1. Book an appointment with a BCom academic advisor by contacting bcom.mgmt [at] mcgill.ca (subject: Withdrawal) (BCom Student Affairs Office).
2. Bring any relevant medical/psychologist notes to your appointment.
3. Be prepared to put your reasons in writing (a letter explaining your situation).
Course withdrawals will result in a "W" grade on your record. This is common, and indicates that you withdrew from a course. It does not indicate that you were failing when you withdrew, and it will not affect your term or cumulative GPA.
Course withdrawal are only given in exceptional circumstances. Reasons which are not acceptable include (I'm not doing well in the course, this course will lower my GPA, I haven't been attending).
Withdrawal from the University
Students who have accessed Minerva and who drop their last course during the period between September 1st (January 1st for the Winter term) and the听withdrawal with full refund deadline听will be deemed to have withdrawn from the University. They will automatically be charged a Registration Cancellation Fee of $200 (or their听registration deposit fee, whichever is higher) to cover the administrative costs of registration. Students who stop attending classes without taking steps to drop their courses will be liable for all resulting tuition and other fees. Students who have withdrawn from the University and who subsequently wish to re-enroll must follow the procedures for re-admission.
What happens if I withdraw? Will it affect my GPA?
Course withdrawals will result in a "W" grade on your record. This is common, and indicates that you withdrew from a course. It does not indicate that you were failing when you withdrew, and it will not affect your term or cumulative GPA.
Withdrawing from all of your courses in a given term constitutes withdrawing from 平特五不中.
Non-attendance of classes does not constitute a withdrawal. It will result in a grade of "J," which indicates that you either missed an exam or failed to submit an assignment without authorization. This is a failing grade, and will negatively affect your GPA.
How do I obtain a refund for my course?
You are not automatically refunded your credit balance, and many students choose to keep their balance on account for use in a future term. You may, however, request that your credit balance be refunded after the course withdrawal (with refund) period has passed. See the Student Accounts website for instructions on requesting your refund.
