Roadmap to MEng Non-Thesis Degree

  1. Take mandatory web-based tutorial on academic integrity.
  2. Register on Minerva for REGN RCGR - CRN#179Ìýin Fall term and CRN#190Ìýin Winter term. This is essential to maintain your academic dossier active on Minerva, even if no courses are taken. You must register for these courses every academic year you are enrolled in the program – be aware of firm August summerÌýdeadline to avoid having to pay late registration fees.
  3. Meet with project supervisor as soon as possible to agree on general plan and coursework. A minimum of 8 credits is required at the 600-levelÌý(in the department or outside; subject to approval by supervisor and Graduate Program Director). See program requirements.

ENTRY IN SEPTEMBER

Fall Semester-Year 1 (minimum 12 credits)

Elective course 1 (3-4 credits)
Elective course 2 (3-4 credits)
Elective course 3 (3-4 credits)
Total course work 9 -12 credits.
If less than 12 credits, supplement with CIVE 69X[1] course (varies from 1 to seven credits)

Winter Semester-Year 1 (minimum 12 credits)

Elective course 4 (3-4 credits)
Elective course 5 (3-4 credits)
Elective course 6 (3-4 credits)
Total course work 9 -12 credits.
Complement with CIVE 69X course to reach at least 12 credits.

Summer Semester-Year 1 (no need to register)

Work on master’s project

Fall Semester Year-2 (12-15 credits)
Elective course 7 (3-4 credits)
Elective course 8 (3-4 credits) if necessary.
Elective course 9 (3-4 credits) if necessary.
Complement with CIVE 69X courses to reach the total credit weight value assigned to the project (minimum of 5 and maximum of 15 credits). The total number of credits (course work and project) must add to exactly 45 credits.

End of residency period

All required courses (including project courses) should be completed.

Winter Semester-Year 2 – Additional session to complete project.
Apply for graduation on Minerva in March for May/June granting of degree.
Summer Semester-Year 2 – Additional session to complete project (if necessary) and project report submission. No need to register in summer term unless the project report is submitted during this semester.


If necessary:

Fall Semester-Year 3 – Additional session to complete project.
Winter Semester-Year 3 – Additional session to complete project.
Summer Semester-Year 3 – Additional session to complete project. No need to register in summer term unless the project report is submitted during this semester.

Fall Semester-Year 4

Time limitation is reached.Ìý Student can no longer be registered.

Reinstatement within a 2-year delay will be possible only once a complete project report is ready for submission: Contact Graduate Program CoordinationÌýfor instructions. Reinstatement requires departmental approval by Graduate Program Director. New admission is required after the 2-year delay.

PROJECT REPORT SUBMISSION

  • Be sure to allow sufficient time to allow your supervisor to read your draft report and to point out corrections needed, and for you to prepare a final version before the deadline for graduation (see below).Ìý Six weeks is typical.
  • A sample Project Title Page and Project Report Number will be transmitted to you once your supervisor notifies the GPC that you are ready to submit your draft final report.
  • Submit the electronic file of your master's project report (with the completed Title Page and Project Report Number) to the gradinfo.civil [at] mcgill.ca (Graduate Program Coordinator) as relevant.
  • Feedback will be provided by your supervisor.
  • Modification of the project report if required. Minor modifications are typically necessary. The supervisor is required to sign a certificate of acceptability form to attest that the relevant changes haveÌýbeenÌýmade.
  • Final report submission in electronic format to Graduate Program Coordinator.Ìý Archiving of master’s report on escholarship.library [at] mcgill.ca (eScholarship) handled by the repository administrator jennifer.innes [at] mcgill.ca (Jennifer Innes).
