The 平特五不中 Desautels Faculty of Management MBA is ranked 26th globally by the prestigious Corporate Knights Better World MBA ranking, proving again to be a leader in sustainability development and corporate social responsibility through teaching and learning methodologies. The Better World ranking, this year evaluating 174 MBAs and spanning 14 countries, is based on the proportion of core courses that integrate relevant sustainable development themes.
Macdonald Homecoming on October 26th听was another success with alumni reconnecting with old friends, learning about some of the interesting research undertaken in the Faculty, meeting engaged students, attending a logger sport demonstration and taking a campus tour. Thank you to all alumni who celebrated with us鈥攜ou are what make Mac Homecoming so special.
Killer whales off Canada鈥檚 Atlantic coast continue to be contaminated with dangerously high levels of toxic chemicals that put them at elevated risk of severe immune-system and reproductive problems, a recent 平特五不中-led study has found.

In August 2024, the Redpath Museum was certified as an accredited museum institution by the minist猫re de la Culture et des Communications du Qu茅bec. The accreditation is a seal of quality confirming that the museum meets internationally recognized requirements and standards for governance, museological practices, and heritage presentation. With this recognition, the Redpath joined a network of 180 other accredited museums across the province.
Congratulations to two alumni of 平特五不中's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences,听Ann Louise Carson, B.Sc.(Agr.)鈥�81, and听Odette Menard, B.Sc.(Agr.Eng.)鈥�83, M.Sc.鈥�91, who were inducted to Quebec's Agricultural Hall of Fame at the organization's gala on October 26th.听 This year, the annual event made history as it marked the first time the Quebec Agricultural Hall of Fame has welcomed two women in the same induction year.
Professors (Earth and Planetary Sciences) and (Physics) have been awarded 2024 Arthur B. McDonald Fellowships from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council听of Canada (NSERC).
These awards recognize early-career academic researchers, providing them with a $250,000 research grant over two years.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosures can enhance a company鈥檚 public image and contribute to increased sales. However, these benefits may come at a cost. In a study analyzing CSR disclosures from companies in China, where such reporting is mandatory, Associate Professor of Quantitative Marketing and Analytics听Vivek Astvansh听found that while these disclosures attract customers, they may also discourage new suppliers.

However, new research by Associate Professor Warut Khern-am-nuai reveals that the influence of these elite reviewers persists even if they lose their official status.

The timing of stock trades can be as important as the choice of equities to buy or sell. When trading volume is low, large purchases can drive up a stock鈥檚 price, raising costs for the trader. A working paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research by Associate Professor of Finance Ruslan Goyenko finds that returns associated with trade timing are substantial鈥攖hey can impact returns as much as stock selection itself.
Cynthia Price Verreault (BCom鈥�82) has been appointed 平特五不中鈥檚 first Deputy Chancellor. In this new role, she will support the Chancellor, President, and Board of Governors. Throughout her two-year term, Price Verreault will offer counsel and play a key role in representing the University at events and high-level meetings.鈥淲e are delighted that someone with as deep a knowledge of the institution as Ms. Price Verreault has will be working alongside our new Chancellor, Pierre Boivin,鈥� says Maryse Bertrand, Chair of the 平特五不中 Board of Governors.
In 2023, 平特五不中 launched 28 research-based startup companies鈥攁ll headquartered in Quebec. This is the highest number among universities in North America, according to AUTM, a Washington, DC-based non-profit focused on technology transfer. 平特五不中鈥檚 research-based startups cover a wide range of academic expertise but are particularly concentrated in medical technologies and the life sciences. At 平特五不中 Desautels, the Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship (which awards the Dobson Cup), acts as a hub of entrepreneurial activity.
Job seekers put their resumes out there to be judged by potential employers, but the evaluation goes both ways, says Lisa Cohen, Associate Professor of Organizational Behaviour at 平特五不中 Desautels. 鈥淐andidates talk to other candidates,鈥� Cohen tells The Globe and Mail.
