Introduction: Health-related disaster research is a relatively small; but growing field of inquiry.听 A better understanding of the scope and scale of health-related disaster research that has occurred in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) would be useful to funders, researchers, humanitarian aid organizations, and governments as they strive to identify gaps, disparities, trends, and needs of populations affected by disasters.

JOOAY, the brain-child of Dr. Keiko Shikako-Thomas and Dr. Annette Majnemer has had an update! After its debut in 2015, version 2.0 has been rolled out. JOOAY is an interactive App that uses geo-location on users鈥 mobile devices to showcase activities ranging from arts programs and social recreation to sports, day camps, respite homes, support groups, and other activities nearby. The new and improved version of the App now includes a chat function.

Congratulations to Thomas Mills听(L) and Johanne Bourdon听(R) on both being recipients of the 2018 平特五不中 Faculty of Medicine听Ovations Awards!

The awards applaud the outstanding contributions of permanent administrative support staff and technicians from across the Faculty of Medicine, recognizing the distinction, hard work, determination, and dedication of the staff members. Thomas was awarded the Pam Chase Award and Johanne was awarded the Priyabrata Mukhopadhaya Award.

They will both be honoured at a special reception with Dean Eidelman on September

Dr. Barbara Mazer听has been promoted to Associate Professor [Professional] in recognition for her excellence in teaching and clinical research!

Dr. Mazer鈥檚 research focuses on the rehabilitation of adults and children with neurological impairments; specifically, the factors associated with utilization of rehabilitation services, integration into the community, participation in leisure activities and use of transportation/driving.

David Anekwe (right) has received听the 平特五不中 MedStar Award in recognition of the his excellence in research, specifically the study he completed and published, titled: 鈥淓ffects of Pressure Support Ventilation May be Lost at High Exercise Intensities in People with COPD?鈥 The paper听was co-authored by Dr. Jadranka Spahija.

David Anekwe also听successfully defended his PhD thesis on听July 12! The title of his thesis was, 鈥淓arly Mobilization of the Critically Ill.鈥澨

Congratulations to SPOT CPA award recipients.

This year the Helen Saarinen Rahikka Student Leadership Award was awarded听to PT M2 student Zachary Weber (right) for leading the inclusion of physiotherapy in Special Olympics Quebec. The award is presented to a student member who has demonstrated leadership and made outstanding contributions to the promotion of the profession.

Dr. Bernadette Nedelec has been named to the Faculty Honour List for Educational Excellence!

This honour is in recognition of her exceptional contributions to education in the Faculty of Medicine (School of Physical and Occupational Therapy).

Bernadette was honoured at the Faculty Honour List Symposium on June 14.听

Dr. Laurie Snider has been named Director of 平特五不中鈥檚 School of Physical & Occupational Therapy (SPOT)!

As Associate Dean and Director, Laurie will continue to build on the work of strategic planning and budget allocation that she began as Interim Director. She will provide effective mentoring to faculty members at the various stages of their careers as well as promoting the environment of collaboration and interdisciplinarity that characterizes the School.
