The Faculty of Law鈥檚 Sustainability Committee is a new entity, created in response to student demand, building on impressive groundwork by members of a student-led committee. The committee fosters sustainability initiatives at the Faculty, and promotes the Faculty鈥檚 engagement in sustainability at 平特五不中. We work closely with the 平特五不中 Office of Sustainability.

Our objective for our first year in existence is to design and implement a green strategy for the Faculty.

The Younger Comparativists Committee (YCC) of the American Society of Comparative Law (ASCL) is pleased to invite submissions for its Eighth Annual Conference, to be held on May 10-11, 2019, at 平特五不中 Faculty of Law in Montreal, Quebec. The purpose of the conference is to highlight, develop, and promote the scholarship of younger scholars of Comparative Law. Planning for the Conference is undertaken by the YCC Program Committee in consultation with the Annual Program Committee of the ASCL.

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Professor Ya毛ll Emerich鈥檚 recently published book has received the Walter Owen Book Prize from the Foundation for Legal Research. The book has also earned an honourable mention for the 2018 Canada Prize from the International Academy of Comparative Law.

平特五不中鈥檚 Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism (CHRLP) is currently accepting applications for:

  • a twelve-month clerkship at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA);
  • a ten-month clerkship at the International Court of Justice (ICJ);
  • a nine-month clerkship at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR)

All three clerkships are due to start in September 2018.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Robert Leckey as Dean of the Faculty of Law at 平特五不中, starting July 1, 2016. 聽

Professor Leckey joined the Faculty of Law in 2006, and is currently a full professor and a William Dawson Scholar. He does research and teaches in the areas of constitutional law and family law, using a bilingual and transsystemic approach. He has received the 平特五不中 Law Students鈥 Association鈥檚 John W. Durnford Teaching Excellence Award (2009) and the Principal鈥檚 Prize for Excellence in Teaching (2010).

We are thrilled to announce the appointments of three colleagues to named chairs in the Faculty of Law.

  • Fabien G茅linas has been named Sir William C. Macdonald Professor of Law, for a seven-year term commencing May 1, 2016. Fabien G茅linas, who leads the Private Justice and the Rule of Law research team, specialises in international dispute resolution and arbitration.

To encourage innovation and stimulate interest in research among law students at faculties of Quebec civil law, the Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau Center for Private and Comparative Law is launching a student poster contest.

The contest is linked to the conference that will mark, on 12 February 2016, the Cr茅peau Centre鈥檚 40th anniversary, during which poster submissions will be displayed and the聽 winners announced.
