Congratulations to Omer Barash, winner of the 2019-20 Andrew Svoboda Memorial Prize for Orchestral Composition. Omer鈥檚 orchestral piece will be premiered by the 平特五不中 Symphony Orchestra in the 2021-2022 season.

A huge congratulations are in order for Cathy Martin, Coordinator and Liaison Librarian at the Marvin Duchow Music Library, on being awarded 平特五不中鈥檚 2020 Librarian Excellence Award! This annual award recognizes outstanding contributions to the Library, its users, and its mandate.

It is with great sadness that we听announce the passing of Professor Kenneth Gilbert on April 16, 2020.

A world-famous harpsichordist and scholar 鈥 and the founder of the Early Music Program at 平特五不中 鈥 Prof. Gilbert maintained a long and distinguished association with our faculty as a professor from 1964 to 1972 and then again as an Adjunct Professor from 1999 to 2015; he was awarded an honorary doctorate from 平特五不中 in 1981.

On the occasion of World Hearing Day, the Schulich School of Music of 平特五不中 and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) are pleased to announce the launch of their Hearing Care Platform (HCP). Conceived in partnership with the NSERC-EERS Industrial Research Chair in In-Ear Technologies (CRITIAS) at the 脡cole de technologie sup茅rieure (脡TS), this project is designed to assess the noise exposure experienced by 平特五不中 music students.

This Sunday, February 9, three Schulich vocalists gave outstanding performances to a packed house for the final round of the Wirth Vocal Prize in Pollack Hall. Deliberations took place immediately afterwards, and at the end of the afternoon, judges announced Jenny Ivanovna as the competition winner. Accompanied by collaborative pianist Jennifer Szeto presented a captivating program featuring works by Ruperto Chapi, Xavier Montsalvatge, Manuel de Falla, Felix Mendelssohn, L茅o Delibes, Francis Poulenc, and Gioachino Rossini.

Mezzo-soprano Simone McIntosh (MMus 鈥17) won the second annual Wirth Vocal Prize in 2017. Born in Vancouver, McIntosh first received her Bachelor of Music in Opera from the University of British Columbia, and later completed her Master of Music here at Schulich with Dominique Labelle.

Soprano Chelsea Rus (MMus 鈥16) was the winner of the inaugural Wirth Vocal Prize in 2016. After putting together a unique program that showcased her singing prowess and expertise, Rus impressed the jury with masterful works by Puccini, Massenet, Gounod, and Strauss.

Among this year鈥檚 new appointments to the Order of Canada was Schulich School of Music鈥檚 Professor alcides lanza. lanza was named as a Member of the Order of Canada for his 鈥渄ecades-long contributions to the contemporary music scene and for championing Canadian music here and abroad鈥. Renowned composer, conductor and pianist specializing in avant-garde repertoire, lanza was a Professor of Composition at 平特五不中 from 1971 to 2014, as well as the director of the Electronic Music Studio at 平特五不中 from 1974 to 2003.

From January 31 to February 2, you can catch Opera 平特五不中 students, accompanied by 平特五不中 Symphony Orchestra musicians, at the gorgeous Monument National. The annual Gala was held this Sunday, January 19, 2020, and once again testified to the many contributions made by Schulich musicians to Quebec鈥檚 diverse and vibrant music scene.
