Dr. Pierre Pluye, researcher and Full Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, took a few detours before ending up in 平特五不中鈥檚 Department of Family Medicine. Originally from the Ard猫che region of southeastern France, Dr. Pluye knew he wanted to pursue a career in medicine at the age of 11. March 13th marks the one-year anniversary of the lockdown here in Quebec that for me represents the beginning of the pandemic. For many I am aware that this was a time where life stood still for many months as the first wave took hold of our community. As a family physician leader responsible for the Herzl Family Practice Centre and at the Donald Berman Jewish Eldercare Centre, a long-term care facility (CHSLD), this was but beginning of an incredibly challenging period of time.

Since planning began in 2019 for the expansion to an additional floor of the offices of the Department of Family Medicine at 5858 chemin de la C么te-des-Neiges, it has been foreseen that an 鈥淚ndigenous space鈥 would be included. That space came to be defined on the floor plan (attached) as two rooms separated by an accordion wall, on the North side of the building. The construction, now underway, will see the expanded offices of Family Medicine completed in 2021.

Dr. David Ortiz-Paredes, general physician and member of the Family Medicine Education Research Group, obtained his Master鈥檚 degree from 平特五不中鈥檚 Department of Family Medicine in 2019. Dr. Ortiz-Paredes was born and raised in Bogot谩, Colombia, where he completed his medical education at Universidad Javeriana. His experience as a primary care physician in a small town in Colombia sparked his yearning for further knowledge in the doctor-patient relationship, role modelling, communication skills, medical professional identity and continuing professional development.
